    Power to Shed project

The junction box isn't see through. Just not got the cover on yet. As for earthing, you can't get a better earth than PME. If I use a 3 core 4mm SWA and one of the cores is the CPC, I've worked out prospective fault current at the shed end is 418A. More than enough to trip the MCB back in the...

Wiring in loft - safe or not?

Was the spark a DIYer? Very poor workmanship.

    Power to Shed project

Some pics from my power to the shed project. Wiring up the shed first before the SWA is run to the shed from the house (20m). Earthing T-N-C-S (PME). Shed CU = 40A 30mA RCD. 1x 20A MCB for 2x 2g sockets. Not anticipating any more load than this. 1x 6A MCB for a 80W light. Cabling is...

    Constructing a soakaway

My compromise... Token gesture really..... Back fill most of it and only have it 50cm deep. It's really for stopping a small section of grass becoming swampy. Not for rainwater gutter drainage. This keeps it above the level of the foundations. I dug 2m down and still black clay!! Sheesh!

    Constructing a soakaway

But, if the hole is clay it wouldn't seep to the foundations? Just overspill eventually and filter away. The plan is to have an access lid and every so often check the depth of the water. If high, then get a drainer in to drain it. There is no other place for this 'soakaway' as the...

    Constructing a soakaway

What's the implications if a soakaway is 1m from house? The pit appears to be clay soil only. Thanks.

Ladders for small loft access hatch

Thanks! I found these. http://www.ladders4sale.co.uk/Abbey-Telescopic-Ladders-102.asp I suppose I dont need a conventional loft ladder as such as these will simply stow away in the cupboard.

Ladders for small loft access hatch

I live in a new build house and when flooring the loft I noticed the loft hatch is a bit on the small side. Probably cause house builders dont want you to go up there in the first place! Anyway, I don't want to cut a larger space and was looking at possibly an alternative. I came across...

Loft floor stilts for loft flooring

Got round to finally installing them. Pretty decent. Going to put some edging along the back and sides to stop boxes being pushed off the side. Before rushing into installing these, plan properly and make sure no cables that cross trusses are in the way or any other structural object. I...

Is this a big problem ?

Have you got a socket tester? Is the ring lights or sockets? If sockets, it may be a popped out earth wire. So you'll have to go round and remove socket cover on each point. Isolate the supply before doing this and use insulated tools. Always treat as live.

Mmmm how to run an outside cable from this consumer unit?

No no. The slabs down the side of the house are already there. It's a new build house. Hence why running swa along the side of the house until the cable gets to the end of the house then it will go to ground. The new paving isn't down yet but will be down before cable is laid.
