    Vaillant Combi DHW noises

Hi Got a Vaillant ecoTEC plus 832 Combi which has started to make weird 'clunking' noises when delivering hot water. Running the kitchen tap doesn't usually provoke it, but the bath tap will if the flow is anything more than a trickle. Heating doesn't seem to be affected although it hasn't been...

Hotpoint tumble drier sounds like a coffee machine

Condensing dryers do contain a compressor so you will hear a 'fridge' sound when it's running. Yours does sound a bit on the loud side but it may be normal.

    Bathroom extractor venting options...

There is a version for mechanical extraction: http://www.lapvent.co.uk/mechanical_extraction.html I have fitted one and it works as advertised.

Sink Slow to Drain after new Waste Disposal

I've fitted a Wastemaid waste disposal in place of an old Insinkerator and I'm finding that the sink is now draining very slowly. With the splash-guard fitted the 'plug-hole' aperture is much more restricted than before and once there is any water in the bottom of the sink it seems to become...

    Removing spout on Franke Rotaflow

I've got one of these. The spout just pulls straight out - in theory. There are two black o-rings on the spout base and as the bottom one becomes hardened with age it tends to stick under an internal lip. You need to pull the spout up and wiggle it from side to side to work the o-ring...

    radiator thermastat

I'm fairly sure they are re-badged Drayton: http://www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/RT414ThermostaticRadiatorValve.aspx (don't take my word for it though - just a DIYer :-) )

    Honeywell CM921

I'm not 100% sure as I have the CM927 but I think they're the same. Are you definitely going into Installer Mode not User Mode? To go into Installer Mode you have to press several buttons at once. If you can't get 2 working could you use 3 instead, since you weren't planning to use it anyway?

    Honeywell CM921

You have to set 19:FS to 1 for a full reset.

    Honeywell CM921

ah - I see. I've just tried setting mine to the same settings and it doesn't do that (the 2 stays visible). Have you tried setting the temperature on 2 to what you want (low)? I suppose if it works it doesn't matter that the 2 doesn't come on. Otherwise all I can think of is to reset it to...

    Honeywell CM921

I'm not sure what you mean when you say 2 is never 'lit'. 2 isn't the 'off' counterpart of 1 it's just the next programme step so your idea of using 2 to set a lower temperature from 8am while you're out is correct.

    Honeywell CM921

There are no on-off periods on this programmer, just 6 temperature settings throughout the day. If you want an 'off' period you have to set a low temperature (eg 12 degrees overnight). It sounds like '2' is disabled. To enable it, go into PROG mode and move to setting '2' then press and hold...

    Changing Honeywell CM907 with a CM927 - reassurance please.

The diagram in the instructions shows the two L terminals as being connected internally, and they are.

Can Honeywell vt200 TRV be calibrated?

I've installed Honeywell vt200 TRVs on most of the radiators in the house and given them a brief test. Everything seems to work okay but there does seem to be some variation in temperature sensitivity - not totally unexpected as I realize these aren't scientific instruments. The instruction...

How to shorten a copper pipe?

I'm pretty sure they're not on slots, SpecialK, as I had them off for decorating last year. Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

How to shorten a copper pipe?

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll give the junior hacksaw a go. Terry - I'll have the emergency services on standby :) Gasop - I take your point about crap dropping down the pipe. Luckily the radiator I was experimenting with is right next to the drain-off point so I'll flush it through...

How to shorten a copper pipe?

As a newbie DIYer I've been going round the house installing TRVs in place of the old manual radiator valves. Everything went okay upstairs where there are floorboards and plenty of movement in the pipes but I've run into a snag downstairs where the pipes go straight into the concrete floor...
