    Leak in oil-tank

As I type, Cadent are installing a gas pipe to the house... 25-metre run, over three levels. They reckon three men for four days...and its fixed prices of around £1700. It does look like good value to me. The next step is to flog our newly-installed oil tank. It is an 1100 litre model, single...

    Leak in oil-tank

You could be right...but it was hard to get conclusive evidence. In the end, given our own risk and the fact that a claim would cause our policies to cost more we never even claimed for the damage. I wish I was in the insurance business...but too late now :-(

    Leak in oil-tank

I've looked at Intergas...they seem to be petty good and I have some respect for Dutch manufacturers.....so right now it is between Intergas and Navien for a wall-mounted gas boiler. Thanks for all the advice so far George

    Leak in oil-tank

He obviously has something else in mind. Just today he told me of someone in our region (Cambridgeshire) who had their gas pipe installation from an electricity company from up North (somewhere).....saving a lot of money. I feel that Cadent makes sense but if there are benefits to this "open"...

    Leak in oil-tank

OK...one last question, regarding the installation of gas pipe. I have a quote from Cadent for around £1700 to install a pipe. This includes an allowance from the gov. of around £1546, which seems pretty good. However, my plumber tells me that I can use gas suppliers from anywhere to provide an...

    Leak in oil-tank

Hi, Thanks for that ...as I had not heard of Navien I was a bit suspicious...also Which have not done a test on them yet. I am only looking for gas-fired, but I did find a Navien boiler with a Stirling Heat Pump! See https://navienuk.com/products/navien-condensing-ncb/for a wall-mounted..also...

    Leak in oil-tank

Hi Andrew, Well, the current problem solved...new temporary oil tank installed. Today we had a meeting with our installer who was very keen on a make of boiler that I had never heard of....Navian. At first look, they do sound impressive and they do offer wall-mounted units of the correct...

    Leak in oil-tank

Hi, This is a summary of what finally happened. 1) A new, smaller tank, is being installed today....as part of a plan to move over to gas in the next year. 2) We needed to stop the leak in the old tank, ASAP. What worked was a flat 3" diameter plastic disk, pushed onto the leak after it had...

    Leak in oil-tank

Unlike a previous tank, where an entire area was leaking, this tank seems to be in very good condition apart from this one hole. In fact, one guy asked me if I thought someone might have deliberately punched a hole in it. The hole is small and clean, not like a rust hole at all. I shall check on...

    Leak in oil-tank

Hi Andrew, thanks for that..I do need confirmation of what I am being told or I end up being a mug. The current boiler is a big floor stander and I was looking for a similarly rated boiler, which is why I ended up with the floor stander of around 30KW. Is there a wall mounted at this sort of...

    Leak in oil-tank

Hi, our steel oil tank..just 8-years old has developed a leak. A single hole has appeared underneath and I have blocked it (temporarily) with a Gorilla Glue filler. So far this has worked. However, we have not found anyone to perform a long-term repair on our tank and this seems to lead us to...

    Kitchen Work Surface Edging

Oh Lord...not an evening job then. Any preferred poly varnish for kitchens?

    Kitchen Work Surface Edging

What do you think of doing what you said but staining the wood before varnishing? The varnish on there now, when it gets chipped, is showing much lighter than the rest.. so makes it very clear that is chipped!

    Kitchen Work Surface Edging

Hi, we thought of that..my prefernce was for the alu... but the stuff is bonded with some resin grout to the tiles and is fluted to match the rest of the kitchen units. If pulled it off we would never get a matching grout filler. I am "happy" to put in the elbow grease to remove the current...

    Kitchen Work Surface Edging

Hi, we have.. and plan to keep .. a work surface of ceramic tiles. Easy to clean, heat proof, etc. It does what we need. However, there is a 40 mm wooden edging trip which is bonded to the work surface. In total it is about 35 feet of fluted profile. This seems to suffer from all the slips...

    MIELE W820 Front Loader

A couple of things: I was looking for a baby guide to shock absorber replacements.... everywhere it is said that it is "easy".. but none of the descriptions of the work that I read were complete. So, this is my attempt. First, our W820 has no bottom plate, so access is possible through the...

Hi, If the problem is just dodgy contacts, Pyronix will sell you a replacement keypad membrane for £5! Take out the old keys sheet of rubber and replace. With a bit of cleaning you should be back to new. Now, I have one of these new membranes, but can anyone advise on how to open the keypad...
