    Awkward kitchen high quote

Half way though a kitchen refurb and got a shock when I was quoted 2k for plastering. Now 2 walls will need battening but the room is less than 3x5. Some is awkward and some will need browning rather than boarding. Also having the ceiling overboarding. I live in Berkshire and the walls are back...

Trying to improve supply flow/pressure to a shower

This may or may not be helpful but I had problems with my shower recently. I took the shower head off where it meets the hose and there was a small rubber bung in it with 3 tiny holes. i assume this was to reduce water flow so immediately removed it and now have a deluge on demand...

    space saving soil pipe

Hi All, I'm fitting a BTW loo in the downstairs 'cloakroom' and trying to save as much space as possible. there was a loo there initially so its just a replacement job. There is the soil pipe from upstairs that joins in to enter the hole in the ground (I don't know the correct terminology)...

how level does screed need to be for wooden floor?

I didn't know you should glue solid wood to the concrete. Doesn't that mean that you don't get the noise, comfort and warmth benefits of an underlay? It is only a tiny cloakroom approx 1.3 Sqm.

I put down some levelling compound in the tiny downstairs loo last night in preparation for laying new wooden flooring. the result is much better than it was but still not 100% flat. how level does it really need to be before laying wooden floor? Id say there is about 3mm between...

    Insulating plasterboard for downstairs loo

Thanks for the response :) I think option 2 looks best to me. Do the nailable plugs just nail straight into the brick! Do you have a link to such a product?

    Insulating plasterboard for downstairs loo

Evening all! I have been asked by SWMBO to renovate the cold downstairs toilet in our 1930s terraced house. 1 wall is external brick and the rest are internal brick, all painted a pale glossy pink. Can't imagine why she wants it redecorated! I have never plasterboarded before and only...

Lining the inside of a roof

Im Re-boarding the loft after having nice shiny new insulation fitted in my 1930s build house. the plan is to use the space for storage but there is no felt under the tiles so everything in there before was covered in lots of cobwebs and dust and general grime. im thinking of using some...

Cross battoning loft joists in loft

Too late I'm afraid, the insulation is down! I would have liked to do it that way but it took a lot longer than expected to lift all the flooring up! It will be reused though so worth the effort. I think ill go for the cheap and cheerful screws aplenty option!

Driveway - Dropping of the frontage/curb

...yeh I can't afford that. Seems like a LOT of money! If it were my 'forever home' or I had an expensive car I might consider it but my 206 would cost about 2k. I'll go for the DIY approach. Any recommendations anyone?

Papering a wall with book pages

I'm not worried about yellowing. In fact I bought a book from a 70s print run for that kind of nostalgic feel. I just don't want corners to peel an scuffs to tear pages.

Papering a wall with book pages

Im planning on papering a feature wall in my study with book pages! I've seen this done on the Internet but I can tell if I should be sealing the pages with something at the end? I don't want the pages to look shiny but I want to protect them slightly! Any advice?
