Flush tiled hearth for victorian gas effect fire place?

So just to confirm; The constructional hearth that’s there already is as least 12mm thick so I can lay tiles on to it that will finish flush with the floorboards(or slightly proud). I can then use a fender to achieve the 50mm height to front and sides? Is that correct? Thanks

We're looking to install a reclaimed original victorian fireplace with a gas effect burner(fake coals etc.). This will all be done by registered fitters but i wanted to keep a tiled hearth that is flush height with the floorboards to keep that victorian look. Is this ok under current regs? I...

    Another humidstat fan question

Thanks for the info. So is it fine to put one in the loft to save running long lengths of cable to put it above a door?

    Another humidstat fan question

I've replaced an old extractor fan with a xpelair humidstat with timer. The spur runs from the lighting circuit and used to have a manual pull cord but as this is a humidstat fan I have no need to use the pull cord so it now spurs directly to the fan terminals (L,N,E) . All works great but...

I'm looking to move our loft hatch out of the bathroom and into the landing in our 1900's middle terrace. Just want some reassurance that i'll be ok to cut another ceiling joist or if its too close to the previously cut joist. pic will help explain: I will need to cut one joist to enable a...

    Plasterboad to External Wall

i had this exact problem after using Wickes 22 x 47mm treated timber. I did find one sheet of 20mm polystyrene in wickes but think it was a fluke. I was suprised how much the 25mm pushed the plaster board out and ended up stamping on it to try to flatten it out a bit. i think you can get...

opinions on needing to tile before positioning bath.

Thanks for the advice, Its not going to be tiled to full ceiling heigh so i presume i don t need to worry too much about finishing with full tile. I've always assumed you run a full tile from the bath lip but will have a look at other tiles in bathroom now. Cheers

opinions on needing to tile before positioning bath.

    batten around window

Thanks for the advice theres no rust on them so will go straight over them with the batten, the batten fixings are these hammer screw fixings with a plug and screw combined(drill 8mm hole in batten and wall type things, then half hammer in and final screw). not used them before as would normally...

    batten around window

I'm battening out a wall so i can fit MRPB and Aquapanel and install a shower. The wall is brick then browning with a top skim. I was planning to just hammer fix the battens over the plaster and through into to the brick. Am I ok to batten around the window edges and leave the angle beads...

partition wall over floorboard that needs replacing

Thanks chri5. Has just occurred to me that i am actually taking the plaster board off the partition wall on the bathroom side to fit aquapanel so i may be able to unscrew the base timber from the board in question and then ease out the board and slide in new one. The reclaimed boards I'm...

    elbow joints into electric shower

Just about to install my new electric shower and have a quick question. I am looking to use push-fit with plastic pipe as existing cold feed pipework uses it. I understand I need a compression joint on the straight connection to the shower inlet but was wondering what type of elbow joints...
