    Replacing downlighters

Hi all. Our house is lit entirely with downlighters, mostly Halogen MR16s but I've replaced the ones in key areas like the hall with LEDs - along with their transformers. Over the years a number have failed because the electrician didn't use fire rated enclosures (renovation was around 2003 so...

    Underfloor heating.

Because he was on a time rate of £65/hr and their to investigate a earth leak the Boiler installer noticed - which we reckon is a small earth leak from the dishwashers or computers as he couldn't see anything to worry about. The Kitchen sockets are through the RCD which he tested with a Megger...

    Underfloor heating.

Thank you for that. The lighting circuit had a breaker on it but is not on the RCD side of the board. The kitchen sockets (where I will take the spur from) are on the RCD side. Spark who came today was pretty amazed that anyone would do such a thing. Thank you once again.

    Underfloor heating.

Turns out our underfloor heating was attached to the kitchen lighting circuit - which explains why the breaker was tripping!! Is there any reason why I can't re-connect it via a spur off a socket, if I run a spur from a socket to a fused isolator switch and then onto the heating controller...

Valiant combi heater not powering up.

Fear not! The moment it wouldn't turn it on I figured there was some very amiss and well out of my comfort zone. So have graciously walked away with my limbs in tact. Thanks for your help though 831 bunny.

Valiant combi heater not powering up.

Yes the boilers is dead. The supply is on and the thermostat Rx unit has two LEDS - one of which is green which (according to the manual) means the boiler should be on but there's no life on the display. I've turned the boiler switch on and off a few times but nothing.

Valiant combi heater not powering up.

Just looked and I'm right about the box (should have done that first) but any ideas greatly appreciated. Looks like the boiler is dead unless I'm missing a trick!

Valiant combi heater not powering up.

    Burning dimmer lights

Hi all. The previous owner has used dimmer lights throughout the house. Each room has halogen mr16 bulbs each feed from individual electronic dimmers. Today a lamp flickered on and off today then came back on but following it there was nasty plastic burning smell. I opened the join...

    Single socket circuit.

Mmm interesting.. Apologies I got my mcb and Rcds terminology wrong. Not all the circuits go via the RCD. Only some of the sockets go via the RCD. The rest are just MCBs on the board. There is a spare MCD on the board with nothing connected to it. Oh well - time find a friendly spark!

    Single socket circuit.

Hey all. We've just moved house and I want to put in a new circuit in just to service a computer server and network attached storage (NAS), luckily there's a spare circuit on the distro board (new RCD type). A couple of questions. 1) If it's only going to have one socket, does it need...

    Is it legal

Sometime last year we had to replace our washing machine which was located upstairs in the bathroom. When the guy from John Lewis came to deliver it and saw the switched connection unit he said if I cut of the plug it would invalidate the warranty... No idea if that's the case but worth...

    Roof leak dilemma

Yes that was badly written :-) It looks like the 3rd guy could be right, but as alastairreid said would be worth cleaning the channels first.
