Dotting & dabbing onto old brick, pva?

Hi, yesterday i knocked old plaster off a brick wall and tonight am going to be dotting and dabbing it, my dad swears by a coat of diluted PVA, that has been left to dry for a short while before slapping on the adhesive, is this correct? or totally unnecessary? Ryan.

Which brand of paint for mist coat on new plaster?

Hi, i was under the impression that for a mist coat on new plaster i should use 'cheap matt emulsion' diluted half-ish with water. The other day i was in B&Q and i proceeded to put 2x 20 litre tubs of B&Q own brand 'matt emulsion' (tick) which came in an orange tub and was about £15 per tub...

    Dry-walling over a lip (beam)

Also what makes it 'pink'? is it anything special or will any solvent free adhesive do? And will i need to slap a coat of diluted PVA onto the beam beforehand? Ryan
