    Drayton MA1 issues

Hi, I went to have a look at a friend's heating system that was playing up. The HW taps were only luke warm and radiators were getting very hot even though the room thermostat was set to the lowest setting. Based on this, I am thinking it is an issue with the diverter valve. The plastic manual...

Patio uplights and underground connection boxes

I'm in the process of replacing the uplights in our patio that have never worked since we moved in and this is not a surprise considering that water has entered the light fitting in most of them. I'm estimating these to have been in place for 10 years or so. The underground junction boxes are...

    System losing pressure

Thanks for your help. I'll try to find an engineer to check it out.

    System losing pressure

@cross thread : I tried that and it's gone down from 1.5 bar to about 0.7 bar in 40 minutes with the boiler turned off. @terryplumb : Yes! There is a pipe from the boiler terminating just short of the front garage door and it seems to be dripping. I never noticed as the pipe terminates behind...

    System losing pressure

My central heating system is based on a Worcester Greenstar system boiler. The system has been losing pressure slowly for the past year or so, needing a top up through the filling valve every fortnight or so. In the past week, the pressure loss has become much more severe, with the pressure...

    Bosch dishwasher fog horn noise

The machine is abour 10 years old. Yes, the sound comes when it is circulating water but not immediately when it starts circulating. You can heat water circulating both before, during and after the noise.

    Bosch dishwasher fog horn noise

I've recently had to take my Bosch dishwasher apart to replace the heater element assembly. This involved disconnecting and refitting the sump assembly, circulation motor, drain pump, some internal piping etc. The dishwasher now works fine however every now and then it makes a moan similar to...

    Shock from power shower

Because if that were the case, then rather then getting shocks only through the shower hose and head, we would be getting much stronger ones whenever we directly touch other taps and earthed appliances.

    Shock from power shower

In my first post I suggested that live current is being conducted through the water and ban-all-sheds seems to concur with me. I don't see any other possibility but I'm open to constructive suggestions.

    Shock from power shower

I don't see how the main earth connection would have a bearing on anything; the shower hose and head are not intended to be earthed as the shower hose connects to a plastic thread.

    Shock from power shower

I could have asked Mira to repair it for £135 flat, but it's not worth it when a new one is £160 and the old one is some ten years old. Some electricians would have probably charged even more than that for 2-3 hours' work. Andrew

    Leaking Hot Water Cylinder

Hi, My hot water cylinder has developed a leak at one of the inlets. I got a plumber over to have a look at it and he said the cylinder was "furring" and that it was best to have it changed. He quoted £450 for supply and fit. I would appreciate the feedback of any other tradesmen regarding...

    Shock from power shower

Thanks all for the feedback. I phoned Mira and they said that using a different shower head could have damaged the pump and electrics due to it being more restrictive, which I think is quite plausible. I'll be having the shower replaced and the RCD checked. Andrew

    Shock from power shower

Hi, Whilst showering, I picked up the shower head at one point and got a relatively strong electric shock from it. The hose and head are chrome and are replacements of the original ones (plastic) that had deteriorated, but they have been used for quite a while without issues. I tested the...
