    Bamboo Plank Floor Scratches

Thanks for reply woodyoulike. I have dropped a couple of items on the floor during construction of the kitchen which have easily dented the flooring, they would have done no damage to the laminate I have down elsewhere. I bought the flooring nearly a year ago from Makro, and taking it up is not...

    Bamboo Plank Floor Scratches

Just layed a Nicoline bamboo plank floor in our new kitchen. It has scratched and dented very easily. Is it possible to easily sand it and apply some good varnish, I was thinking of the Ronseal Diamondhard. If so, what grade of sandpaper would you use on the sander?

Laminate floor around curved toilet base?

I find it easier in the long run and more professional finish to remove and replace the pan, only takes an hour and saves messing around.

Thanks for info, I was thinking about linear metres, not square metres. Can you advise - A couple of the short walls bow in 5mm max from bead to bead - over 1.8metres. I have asked for these to be reskimmed and am insisting on the use of a feather edge to get it straight although the plasterer...

    Uneven skimming

I am thinking about using a lining paper, then a lightly embossed anaglypta to break up the surface. Hopefully this will hide the problem. It is just annoying that I now have to do repairs around sockets etc so that they sit properly as the plaster ramps up to them because the boards were fixed...

Eh? An 8*4 is 2.4 metres high by 1.2 metres wide, I measured the circumference and divided by 1.2. There is 1 board left over from the 26 on completion. The finish was underestimated, it took around 10 - 12 in the end.

    Uneven skimming

Thanks for replies. The rooms are done now, the surfaces are polished, but uneven. The board underneath is obviously flat, but the surface is uneven. Am I asking too much for it to feel flat like running your hand over the board? If not, should they be skimmed again by someone else on the walls...

    Uneven skimming

Hi, if a wall has been skimmed unevenly, and the surface undulates as you pass your hand over it, is there a method for sanding it flat easily? My plasterer is not scraping with a straight edge as i would have expected and some walls are getting this effect due i would think to the small nature...

There is 1.2 metres to an 8*4 me thinks. The rooms are approx 2.3m high which takes the 2.4 side of the board. I've sacked him now anyway and have someone else coming in labour only. I've got 26 boards, 10 adhesive and 6 finish for £190, to do 1 bedroom, kitchen and conservatory labour quote is...

No, I have already boarded the ceilings and studs, these only need skimming. Only walls are to be boarded. There is approx 36m of wall.

36 of 8*4 boards, all beading, adhesive, finishing plaster etc, didn't sound too far off to me. Fair comment about the cash, I will make sure that I keep the upper hand. Thanks for info.

    Drain pipes

If your neighbours guttering connects to your downpipe also and your house is pre 1937, it will be the water companies responsibility(or the council if they still have the agency)-quote section 24 to them if this is the case. If not, the pipe belongs to you up until its point of connection with...

Does £1150 sound fair for the following work - £350 materials cost included. New extension - 2 bedrooms 4*2, partitions and ceilings already boarded. Kitchen 4*2 partition and ceiling already boarded. Conservatory, 4 metres of 600 dwarf wall, a 4*2 wall and a 2*2 wall. Thanks.

    Speedfit Testing

Sorted! I left it alone for a week and did other jobs. Decided to have a go tonight and found that one of the radvalves was leaking up the shaft so fitted another one. Filled the system with water and pressurised from the top with 4.5 bar. No water leaks and no pressure loss after 1 hour. I now...

Door frame projection - new extension

Thanks guys. So I am looking to leave the face of the lining about 3mm proud then so that it will be flush when the board is skimmed? The lining is 80mm thick, so 50mm + 12.5 + 12.5 leaves 2.5mm a side for skim, sound right to you?

Door frame projection - new extension

I have built a 50mm timber stud partition and lined it with 12.5mm plasterboard. I have bought ready made door frames and want to know how much they should project beyond the face of the plasterboard bearing in mind that the board will be skimmed. Do I leave them out until the plastering is...

    Speedfit Testing

I will rig the dry tester up on top of a rad tonight after filling the system. A plumbing friend has suggested that I should boss blue the compression fittings to the rads. The fittings are not twist and lock, just standard jg speedfit.

    Speedfit Testing

I am installing a new CH system and have selected speedfit pipe for the radiator pipework. I have completed part of the system across the landing area and into 2 rads. I have stop ended the 22mm flow and return at the boiler side and 1 of the 15mm fittings which is on its way into the kitchen. I...
