    Multifinish over expanding foam

Evening Ken.. very good point about the flapping. I think I’m going to have to cut the channel and see what I find. I’m now wondering about expanding foam board adhesive. I’ve never seen it used but if it’s similar to expanding foam it could stop the flapping and fill the gap. Not sure...

    Multifinish over expanding foam

I’m cutting out a 6” channel from ceiling to floor in insulated plasterboard for heating pipes. If I then fill with expanding foam can I just cut it back and skim the whole wall?

    Mix of plasterboard and bonding

Hi, normally I would fashion a board or two to fit in here or entirely fill with bonding. In the current situation i haven’t got enough of either. If I fill 70% with a couple of pieces of board and fill in the gaps with bonding will it crack later. I have plenty of multifinish

Thanks Woody. The door is external but you’re right the alignment is fine and door opens without issue. Much appreciated.

Cracks... to worry about or not?

Hi, i bought this 1940's bungalow 5 years ago and fully skimmed after refurb. Unfortunately the plaster has blown in a few places which I accept for such an old house. My concern is the crack in the bricks above the middle of the door. The bungalow has a kingspost truss resting immediately...

    PVA before bonding?

All cabling is new. I never realised I should square off the edges before bonding. Thanks I’m comfortable with the skimming but I’ve forgotten a lot of the prep side. Never did a lot of bonding etc. If you’re talking about the far right corner on the wall with the socket below it is actually...

    PVA before bonding?

Thanks Alastair but with things as they are I’m going to have to use the bonding I already have so still need advice on best way to apply bonding

    PVA before bonding?

Hi. I need to build up a level on an existing plastered and emulsioned wall. The white area in photo. Only about 3 or 4mm. Do I pva before bonding? Do I score the wall? Also do I need to pva where I’ve ‘dug out’ some cracks.

New wall boards against existing ceiling

Hi, what to do about the joint with the ceiling when replacing wall plasterboards and skimming. The ceiling is enormous so I won’t be re-skimming that. If I don’t do anything I’m going to see cracks. Coving isn’t an option

    When to remove acrows

God I hope you’re kidding!! I’m confident but it’s still a big task for an amateur. Drinking tea and giving it a long hard stare

    When to remove acrows

Thanks Woody but the slate isn’t everywhere so I’d prefer to be confident the mortar has properly set by now

    When to remove acrows

4m rsj went in Tuesday and the 10mm gap between steel and existing brickwork above was packed with 3:1 sharp sand:cement (very dry, just clumping). Also banged in some slate where I could get a tight fit. This is indoors so heated each evening. The mortar felt as hard as a rock 24 hours...

    Cracking at wall joints

Couple of questions on same topic. When boarding up to an existing wall or ceiling what do you do about skrimming? Can I use jointing tape which will be covered on the new wall by the skim and on the existing wall use easifill to hide the tape edge? Where I have existing cracks where walls...

Patching in board and feathering in

Hi, I’ve just removed a supporting wall which has left some large holes in the ceiling near the rsj. Although I’m happy to skim the full walls the ceiling is enormous so I’m going to have to patch. It’s been a long time since I patched so my question is ..... after I board in the holes and...
