    Strange paint problem

WE painted the papered wall below the dado rail in our hall with good quality vinyl silk emulsion paint two years ago. We kept the remains of the paint in a sealed jar for touch ups if necessary. 6 months ago touch up was needed for marks left by our grandson's stair gate and there was no...

    soil pipes

I have bought an old cottage which has an original WC outside the back door and a bathroom above. All bathroom outlets enter a single stack which then goes beneath floor and into drain from downstairs WC. There is an inspection cover at the rear of the house and close to it ,on the back wall is...

    old cottage

This is standard brick,as I said no sign of DPC but I did dig out the three air bricks along the side wall, I will be searching the front aspect again for any more air bricks as this is the wall where floor joists terminate. In times gone half of the front aspect was a small shop, I believe it...

    uneven floor

Just bought an 1890ish cottage in need of much work for retirement starting next week. In a ground floor room i could feel under the carpet that the floor was uneven, this was commented on by my surveyor but he seemed to think nothing of it. My idea was to expose floorboards so I stripped off...

After the help before I have another question. My intention was to put LED downlights in the kitchen ceiling of my new place but I've noticed that the professionals on here don't seem to like them. Is this correct and if so what is recommended please.

    re-wire

I've bought an old cottage which needs a re-wire. Because we're short of money I can do this ( I'm competent but not registered ) with the intention to get a tradesman to put in the CU, make final connections and fully test the system, with certification. Is this OK?

    light problem

This was the downstairs light circuit and the other lights acted ok. I did close down the mains so I could disconnect the switch, I thought I'd misunderstood the original wiring and connected the wrong ones to the junction box, It was still playing up after I'd reconnected as original.
