I've bought an old cottage which needs a re-wire. Because we're short of money I can do this ( I'm competent but not registered ) with the intention to get a tradesman to put in the CU, make final connections and fully test the system, with certification.
Is this OK?

Of course, if you do it right ;) if you don't, could be a whole world of pain.

1) What Eddie said.

AND

2) If you apply for Building Regulations approval before you start, and get their agreement.

AND

3) If you find an electrician prepared to put in the CU, make final connections and fully test the system, with certification, before you start.

What do you mean by "with certification", by the way?
