Hi all, moved into our 4 bed detached 2 1/2 years ago and first winter i topped up the insulation in the loft and had new facias and soffits etc done.
When the temp really dropped i noticed condensation on the underside of the felt (non breathable) so doubled up the soffit vents as the...
Help, doors are locked and keys are lost, how easy is it to replace the locks and what would be a cost if i needed to get a lock smith in,locks are the normal type used in modern upvcdoors!
Hi all,

hi all,
have a tricity bendix 2 in 1 washer dryer,an eco 5 model and its served me well for the last 10 years, however now when it goes into spin mode it sounds like its spinning nuts and bolts about-the noise is terrible!
Now i know its time for a new machine but im moving house soon and that...
Hi guys-im a complete novice so need some advice,i need to tile over one hot and one cold water pipe both are about 1.5 m long and are about 100 mm apart,is it ok to tile so close to pipes that the tile is almost touching or will the tile possibly crack from the heat?
touch it????
are you crazy?
im not talking about fresh concrete here!
you cannot judge the moisture content of a concrete slab by touch
i can see all those curling laminate boards right now lol
What is the easiest, cheapest way of testing moisture content in a concrete floor for laying laminate only-not timber!
Some of the meters available cost a fortune-is there a cheap reliable method?
Hi all
is this device good enough for checking concrete moisture levels prior to laying laminate flooring?
Protimeter
Model: BLD5760 - Aquant
If not what is a cheap but efective device to buy?
Iknow some fitters use a hygrometer so could an effective method be to simply place a room...
ok thanks :D
by the way what is the difference between dpm and a vapour barrier and why do you think the floor has ashfalt/bitumin (not sure but its black) layed on top when surly there must be a sub floor dpm on a house built in 1994?
thanks for your replies noseall :D
im not sure about the tiles,i will ask the guy when i get back there-i thought it would have the dpm, just had to check!
It originally was the show house to the estate it sits on so they have made a special effort for that one
its either ahfalt or bituman!
its the black stuff :D
i cant understand why a house built in 94 would have this?
I was just going to lay the laminate and underlay straight on top of the ashfalt/bitumin but im wondering if it possible that no damp proof was put under the concrete?
hi all
can anyone tell me when it became common practice to use damp proof membrane under concrete floors?
the reason is i am laying a laminate floor at a house built in 1994 and to my supprise it has ashfalt layed on top of the floor-i wonder if this was done "extra" to the sub floor dpm or...
sorry if this has been asked before but when laying laminate is it essential to use a dpm over ashfalt or will ashfalt be good enough as a damp barrier?
The house was built in 1994 i think and surely the base must also have a dpm under the concrete?
hi kevash-thanks for a usefull reply! only wondered about the foam as im told thats what a lot of fitters use nowadays!-i went to the council office and asked what i needed to do and wasnt informed that i would need building regs approval, they did tell me what to do about fensa though so thats...
