Power line broad band issue , one socket

Well the results are even more mysterious. Broadband in every upstairs socket is above 5 meg. Turning the power off, splitting the "ring main" ? There is no continuity from red to red or black to black. Restoring power, only one red has 240v. I was unable to find a spur socket without...

Power line broad band issue , one socket

I will test the upstairs sockets broadband tomorrow too as the network and power are in full time use most times. ( finding a slot when it's light, no one is recording TV, in the shower, washing , not cooking, not working on the PC. )

Power line broad band issue , one socket

Testing from the consumer unit is extremely difficult. Some lovely person placed it at ceiling height, there is a fridge freezer below. I accept that it's not ideal having a power line unit on different ring mains, however it has been running for 3+ years giving 20mb. I'm not sure when it...

Power line broad band issue , one socket

Power line units are supplied by BT. Are you saying BT provide unlawfull devices? Do those socket testers you plug in detect a break in the ring main, or do you need to split the ring main to prove a fault?

Power line broad band issue , one socket

Further thinking, I only tested down stairs sockets. And this one appeared to be fed from the upstairs breaker. If I broke the ring at the defective socket and tested for continuity round the ring? . I could also test the upstairs sockets for broadband. If there was a break in the ring...

Power line broad band issue , one socket

I have recently done insulation work in the loft. We are detached , our house is 2m from next door. Another socket 4m away is temporarily feeding the PC at 5mb with an extension cable as this socket is behind a wardrobe. I am concerned more that there is an electrical fault that may...

Power line broad band issue , one socket

Hi, I have used power line broadband sockets to get broadband in our sprawling bungalow for some years with no problems. But suddenly it has gone down from 20 meg to 0.1 meg all other sockets tested give 20 meg. I have turned the power off and tightened the screws. The socket is still...

How to cut many bricks in half very efficiently?

I have a block paving cutter fron lidl that works well that only cast around £10. I also got a angle grinder holder that works like a chop saw. If you could bolt on a piece of wood to hold the brick in the right spot... Just place the brick in the jig and pull the handle down. When the dust...

to go from the living room to the bedroom through the garage

The house next to me was split into 5 bedsits The council ruled that because there were Yale type locks on each internal door it was not a single dwelling and that the residents did not have anything in common other than being unemployed. If it had been 5 nurses or 5 students they might have...

    Increasing Rafter Tie depth

There are no A frames in this loft, but you could use silver foil to create an envelope I cut notches for the some rafters. But in general I went within 4" of the edge of the loft. I still put around 40 square meters of insulation down with chipboard floor over the top with staggered joints. I...

    Cut wire help please

These wire crimps are insulation displacement crimps. The bite through the insulation and make a permanent connection. Just push two wires into the two holes, squeeze the crimp head with pliers. They also have silicone gel that keeps moisture out. The only down side is the holes are side by...

    Increasing Rafter Tie depth

I just upgraded my insulation using 50 mm celotex boards. Then I refitted the loft boards over the celotex. The loft floor is now fantastically level. The load is spread. The celotex has twice the rating of Fiberglass type insulation. I used 90mm screws into the joists. I used a plaster board...

    Cut wire help please

I am a retired BT engineer. I have a box of crimps. Designed for 0.5mm wire If I couldn't get the slack I would let in about 3" of wire and put a crimp each end. If you PM your addressing will post you som free of charge. I'm my opinion screw connections will give trouble. Crimp or solder is...

The end of wet central heating?

The beauty and failing of gas is it can provide lots of heat quickly. Modern homes should no longer need huge quantities of heat. If a home can be heated with a small electric heater and doesn't need an expensive install or annual servicing I can see the end of gas heating. Gas heating...
