    Dual-boot laptop: suggested strategies

Get more RAM. Min 128 for Win 2000 and Linux. Then install Windows 2000 first, only partitioning what you want windows to use (Use FAT32 if you want Linux to be able to write to the windows partition, NTFS is better but linux will be read only to the Window's partition) then install linux...

HI, Does anybody know how easy it is to change a vectra Casette / Radio to a cd head unit that is ISO standard? Do you just slide out the old and slide in the new? or does the cage need changing and wires moving / connecting etc. Thanks, Darren

    Linux

I agree with Eddie M, don't go to linux if you have windows. It's a pain when you want to install new software, Wine will emulate windows to allow windows software to run, however it is buggy and slow. In terms of stability the kernel is very stable, willl only really crash due to hardware...

    Windows XP Pro 64 Bit

I put XP 64 on an Acer laptop for a mate. No noticable difference in performance but loads of problems getting compatable drivers. Still looking for the WIFI driver. Some programs didn't install but most did (64 bit processors and emulate 32 bit code, but not 16 bit code, which is used by...

Difficulty starting Transit in cold weather

For Diesel combustion to work temperature is required (reason why Diesels have glow plugs is to help them start). I'm suprised it doesn't have glow plugs, although the cold starting aid must be something similar (IE warm the cylinders to aid combustion). I'd look into that a bit more...

Vauxhall corsa 1.2 - brake problem

Why did you change the pads and disks? Reason I ask, was there a fault with braking which was blamed on the Pads and Disk when it could of been something else, like loss of vaccum in the servo (is it petrol or diesel?) / leaking brake fluid. Do the brakes pump up at high revs? I'm not...

    Intel powered macs

Serious design software is quickly switching from UNIX to Windows platforms, especially since XP_64 is available. Several major companies (AIRBUS, BOEING, Lockheed Martin etc) will soon be using windows for all design work (once the unix machines have all died). Most Major automotive OEM's...

    missing ntldr

This may sound silly, but is it trying to boot from a floppy (maybe even a cd), make sure that nothing is in the floppy disk drive. Check the BIOS setting to make sure that it's defaulting to the hard disk to boot from.

    Intel powered macs

Intel also make some chips for unix platforms, I think HP and SGI have used intel chips in the past. Are you saying that Apple is going to the X86 platform? If so definatly bad news for MAC users.
