Painting New Render - Can I do it now?

We had a newly built small outbuilding rendered about 10 days ago (top coat was 10 days ago) scratch coat was about 4 weeks ago. The render has gone very light in colour and appears completely dry. We have a break in the weather in the SE and for the next 4 days its looking like the daytime...

Would you be happy with this roof?

I appreciate it’s not finished yet so I’m going to give them a chance to finish and clean it up, but is there an easy way this will come off without damaging the tiles? Wouldn’t have thought brick acid would be good for the coating.

Would you be happy with this roof?

To cut a long story short, the roofer is nearly finished on our summerhouse roof, he had to stop yesterday as the light was fading and he was rushing to get the ridge tiles bedded in. He couldn’t finish so will have to come back, however, today after the roof dried, the tiles look like they are...

Roof spread - Hip Roof Construction

I agree but they sent us an email stating that in our application they would measure from the lowest point of adjacent ground and that if we disagreed we would need to submit a new application. I gave up as the builders were starting so we just lowered it all, annoying but i didn't have the...

Roof spread - Hip Roof Construction

Thanks that was my understanding, there seems to be lots of build codes online or literature from America / Canada which states this.

Roof spread - Hip Roof Construction

Yes sadly, the building is on sloping ground about 300mm difference length wise, we spoke to the planners who said they measure from the lowest point of adjacent ground! Meaning we had to keep the walls slightly lower than planned and reduce the wall plate height. Neighbour objected to the...

Roof spread - Hip Roof Construction

Excuse my very basic sketch.... Do you think this set up would work to stop any spread..... Rafters ties installed 200mm above the wall plate. Gives us a little extra headroom. Overall height from wall plate to ridge is about 1.2M so this would be in the bottom 1/3 of the roof.

Roof spread - Hip Roof Construction

Thanks for the replies @noseall & @Deluks I have now spoken to the roof framer. He said the best bet to gain a small amount of extra headroom whilst keeping the structural integrity would be to have ceiling joists on every rafter as usual and collar ties but that he can lift the ceiling joists...

Roof spread - Hip Roof Construction

Thank you for the reply. They are fitting collar ties higher up but i don't believe that's enough to stop the spread. No steels. I did read somewhere that dragon ties at each corner on hip roof's stop the wall plates spreading out but in all fairness i have no clue. I wonder if we added more...

Roof spread - Hip Roof Construction

We are having a block built double skin garden room built. Its under 30sq meters so doesn't require building regs. Carpenters have said they can vault the ceiling no problem when building the roof structure, i would like this but am a bit worried about roof spread as the tiles are the heavy...

Foundations / Slab for a block outbuilding

Looking for some advice... We had planning approved for an outbuilding with dimensions of 4.8m x 3m with a pitched roof (overall height around 3.6M). Approved plans: As the building in under 30sq meters it doesn't require building regulations so apart from the planning drawings with...

    New Build; is this damp?

If that is the case, would there not be damp showing below the DPC? I thought the damp would be rising up from ground level and then possibly bridging but below DPC is dry.

    New Build; is this damp?

Hi everyone, We have a newly built house (self build) block construction with traditional sand and cement render, the rendering was completed at the end of Oct. I’ve just noticed these damp patches on the outside, particularly above the air bricks. Is this just the blocks drying out or...

Can this be a Non material Amendment?

Hello, I'm hoping someone could advise us on what the best course of action is, we have approved plans for a wrap around single story extension to our bungalow, we are on a sloping plot so the height difference at the back door to ground level is around 0.8m, we have the attached design...

Builders Quotes - Is this correct

Sometimes it’s all you have to go off, plus the contract, drawings and specification that has been agreed. It’s stage payments and everything will be in writing. We are able to view past works and there wasn’t any pressure to go ahead, he also have a 5 month wait to start. What else can you do?

Builders Quotes - Is this correct

No bill of quantities, just the building regulation drawings, structural calcs etc and specification for everything we would like. If we have sent via email and the quote states includes everything as per drawings / documents isn't that enough?

Builders Quotes - Is this correct

For the following reasons... He was on time, polite, seemed to have a lot of knowledge and pointed out things others had not, made suggestions that made sense, took quite a bit of time to go through everything, kept in touch, waited for the full building regs before giving his quote (others had...

Builders Quotes - Is this correct

Yes that sounds reasonable, we haven't got any breakdown. For instance we may want nicer windows when the build starts if we have saved more cash by then but we don't know how much the current ones are so in certain areas it would be handy to know what the budget is, equally they have an...
