Underfloor heating manifold installation - flow direction

Thanks Russ. I have the technical guys at Ambiente tell me that as well today. Actuators “always” go on the bottom and lock shields on the top. Thanks for reassuring me I wasn’t going mad.

Underfloor heating manifold installation - flow direction

Hi All, This could open a can of worms... But we have just had 2 manifolds installed for around 120m2 of underfloor heating and the plumber has installed the manifolds like this. Can anyone with technical understanding of these validate if this is installed correctly. I am worried that the lock...

Reuse Victorian stock brick for extension vs buy new

Thanks Notch.. key thing from my perspective is the strength of the existing stock bricks and the relaying of them in the correct fashion. Having never relaid bricks before I don’t know if it is best to try and shift them and buy new as I can get 500 ibstock for £170

    Levelling off plasterboard joints

That will more than likely why the joins are more pronounced. The tapered edge is for what they call tape and joint - paper or mesh tape (scrim) and stuck into the residual tapered joint with filler and then a layer of filler is feathered over the top to create a flush finish. This is a great...

    Levelling off plasterboard joints

Stating the obvious, but are you using tapered edge boards? I would have also suggested using a 15mm board; double boarding with 12.5mm or getting it skimmed post drylining. Double boarding is the simplest way of accomplishing a even surface for a diyer if you already have the boards. The...

Reuse Victorian stock brick for extension vs buy new

Hi All, I have around 5000 Victorian stock bricks that I need to remove during an extension and uam thinking of reusing as facing bricks on our extension. The question is would you reuse 170 year old bricks or would you buy new, I have my suspicions that most would buy new. Issues I foresee...

Hoist hangers on RSJ / Steel Beam | Advice

Please can anyone give advice on this rsj installation. I think we might have issues with building control on this one. The joist hangers haven’t been put on correctly and have been cut off instead of bent over the top. Is this safe and will it pass building control inspection? Thanks

Combined wet and electric underfloor heating in wet room

The wet room will be in a basement. It will have MVHR extraction in it but is required for the purpose of drying out the space to avoid damp/mold. I was thinking of hooking this up to an electric backup towel radiator as well. As the entire basement will have 160mm PIR and insulated...

Basement drainage | Foul and dewatering

Hi All, We are going through a cellar to basement project and just want to ask a few details about the drainage layout and what offers both building regulation coverage, but also what is the most practical solution. We aren't 100% tied to the layout so if a more suitable layout would be...

HELP | Wall joining pitched roof. Gap below RSJ

Due to requiring a 2000mm doorway from front section to rear. The rear is about 980mm lower than the front. If we lower the beam it will impede the doorway, which is to the right of the plan, not shown. See we can engineer a beam with an angled section to follow the line of the roof. But this...

HELP | Wall joining pitched roof. Gap below RSJ

Hi All, We have an issue that we are not sure how to address. The way the house lies on a slight slope means the rear steps down and we want to open up the back of the house to allow an open plan kitchen/diner/living room. The issue comes with the rear steel work, this opens the rear aspect...

Hi, We have a catslide outrigger and we need to replace the entire roof as part of renovations. While we are doing this I would like to vault the ceiling to make a great feature in the room. What are the options for doing this as we suffered splay from the previous owner replacing slate with...

    Rebar instead of Helibar??

The walls have been stripped and sandblasted, so some pointing has been blown out that was loose. Gab c. 10-15mm (excluding the 10mm joint) The house was built in 1835 so I would expect and have been told a bit of movement is inevitable and not to worry, it’s easily repairable.

    Rebar instead of Helibar??

This forum is turning out to be a godsend, so here we go again... We have some large areas of reinforcement required. Mainly to reassure as much as anything, we have stripped back to bare brick and uncovered some bits that need attention. Can we use standard rebar with resin, then repainted as...
