Thanks. I assume that the old programmer was not connected to same terminals? Current programmer is in a different room from boiler so the wires you see on the back of it are to another cable which routes back to the boiler. I'd like to put the heat link in the same place so wanted to use those...

Yes that's exactly the board of the informa. There is nothing to suggest that they changed or replaced as it was in place from the owner before them. So since there is nothing to be connected to L/Fail and no evidence it ever was, what other circumstances could cause the XR2 to beep twice...
