    Hot Water Issue (Nest, Unvented)

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you heating / plumbing gurus had any advice for me in regards to my current issue. A few months ago, my hot water cylinder stopped calling for heat from the boiler and has been running on its immersion heater ever since. The heating works fine with no issues...

    Garage workshop

Thanks for the replies, I'm in the UK, what sort of ball park figure would an electrician charge for a 20 m circuit going straight through the back of the consumer unit into the garage and a new breaker? If it makes it cheaper I can fit the sockets or wire them up myself, I've done plenty of...

    Garage workshop

Hi all, I'm looking at putting a few sockets in the garage, probably around 6 more in total, as I'm going to be putting a work bench and some equipment in there.. My consumer unit sits in the hallway adjacent to the garage, so straight behind it is fairly easy access. This will be powering...

    Nest / Hot water issue

I think you might just be a genius. I switch my immersion spur off and pressed this reset switch and (whilst only early days) it seems to have kicked the boiler on for the water! Will see how it goes and let you all know if this fixed it. Side note, if this little reset button has cost me a ton...

    Nest / Hot water issue

To clarify the thermostat type I have attached pictures of it and the valves that are both the same and set to auto. Our immersion heater switch was on, as even with it turned off the boiler still is not heating the water

    Nest / Hot water issue

I linked the thread so all of the information I used is available, not just the photos. There could be an issue with the original install and that thread is the best way to explain what has happened to get me to where I am right now.

    Nest / Hot water issue

There's a small black plastic cap with a plastic pin underneath it that is sticking out, does that seem normal?

    Nest / Hot water issue

It doesn't seem to do anything, the cylinder just uses the immersion heater straight away, the nest app shows that hot water is currently ON. How can I check that this hasn't operated?

    Nest / Hot water issue

There is a ton of info in this post I made back then: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/nest-installation.534554/ It has pictures of all the old / new wiring and also the cylinder etc... Thanks

    Nest / Hot water issue

Hi all, I've been having an eternally long nightmare, of which I have only just realised stems from a nest install from back in 2019. As it turns out, my electricity bill woes are due to my unvented cylinder using its built in (3kw!!) emergency heater, rather than calling for heat from the...

    Nest Power Issue

Yeah boiler is on and is still heating the water fine, it's literally just the heat link that's not working

    Nest Power Issue

Thanks for the reply, I have had a good look and have had no luck finding a fused spur near the boiler (there is one off a mains socket that powers another nearby socket but that's all) or near the wiring in the tank cupboard centre, or near the heat link. There is one linked to my tank that...

    Nest Power Issue

Slightly different to that as we had a loft conversion so we no longer have a tank, we have a cylinder and 2 shower pumps like this photo.

I have an S plan system I believe, with 2 port valves.

    Nest Power Issue

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could give some advice regarding my nest. It's been installed for around a year and a half and has been working spot on for all this time. Today I realised the thermostat was not connected to the heat link, upon further investigation it turns out the heat link...

    Extra socket question

Hi John, My consumer unit has RCD protection built in, does this cover the new socket? I don't plan on moving any time soon but I can label up the back box to ensure any future occupiers can find where it is cabled to, I measured just now and it's actually only 143mm deep (Not sure why I had...

    Extra socket question

Thanks for the quick reply, technically it's all still following safe zones but just wondered if I missed something. Cheers John

    Extra socket question

Whilst I have some knowledgeable folk here, could I ask another question: I want to spur one socket onto my chimney breast, the depth of this is around 250mm, could I run a socket from a wall next to this to the front of the chimney breast? Technically the sides are slim enough so that the safe...
