    1996 Ford Escort TD.

I've replaced both wheel cylinders , brake shoes both sides and 'adjusted' the primary hand brake cable with a spacer and everything is ok. I think it'll need new cables next time. The shoe adjusters seem to be ok at the moment. They'll be replaced next time. Thanks all.

    1996 Ford Escort TD.

The car's just failed its MOT on handbrake travel and rear brake efficiency so I guess the drums will have to come off.

My sons car is due for an MOT and I suspect that the handbrake travel may be excessive (8 clicks). I've checked the adjuster by the handbrake lever and it has no more travel. has anybody any idea about the most likely reason for this?

Finally found a broken wire inside the multipin connector to the pump. I've remade the connection and lo and behold, the immobiliser works properly and the car starts OK. Thanks a lot for everbodys help Cheers

    Escort lx 1.8TD won't start

Putting a wire link in place of the starter inhibit relay enables the starter motor ok. Do I now just need to get at the stop solenoid or is there more to this?

    Escort lx 1.8TD won't start

Hi Stivino. Doesn't the immobiliser control the stop solenoid? If it does, can't I access this circuit external to the solenoid itself?

    Escort lx 1.8TD won't start

Maybe I'm being simplistic but if the immobiliser can enable and run all necessary circuits on the car then bypassing them at the immobiliser should enable the car to run normally without any further mods. I've just got to find it first.

    Escort lx 1.8TD won't start

No. Neither key works at all. I had an auto locksmith look at it and he tried to re-programme the keys. The car wouldn't let his programmer into the system at all. He suggested a blown fuse but, unless there is an immobiliser fuse hidden somewhere, all fuses are intact. A Ford technician has...

    Escort lx 1.8TD won't start

My sons escort TD has suddenly decided not to start. Turn the key and nothing happens. Not even a click. If you put the red key in you get rapid flashing from the immobiliser led eventually followed by what I assume is a fault code. The code is 3 flashes followed by 2 flashes. Any Ideas?

Fixing to steel framed stud walls

The wall the other side is already covered with trunking, white boards etc. Is there any mileage in using a 18mm square of MDF say to spread the load over a much greater area?

Fixing to steel framed stud walls

I've been asked to mount a pair of moderately heavy (6-7kg) loudspeakers to a steel framed stud wall in a local school. I would normally use expansion bolts in a solid wall but obviously they would be no use here. Being a school building, safety is very important. Has anybody got any suggestions?

I agree. My next step is to put a lamp or LED across the stop solenoid to monitor the situation. Problem is there's no real information on the immobiliser. Thanks anyway

    1996 Ford Escort TD

Can anyone help with an intermittent but continuing problem with my sons car. Every so often, the engine will just die whilst driving . Speed seems to be immaterial. If you re-start using the key the car will always start. The problem seems to be worse in wet weather . Has anybody any ideas

What puzzles me is that when the engine dies and you coast to a stop, it always starts again first time with no hesitation. It seems to be worse from a cold start.

Just bought the car which appears to have one intermittent problem. Occasionally, when accelerating, the engine dies suddenly and completely. When you stop and re-start, it starts ok and runs totally normally. Any suggestions appreciated. Could it be the stop solenoid?

DP Of course I appreciate the advice given by yourselves on this forum. I just wish the engineer involved had simply said, sorry I don't know how to take this apart. I would respect him for that. I wouldnt expect to be charged £88 for this however. Once again , thanks for the help you've all...

DP . In answer to your questions, he came from a supposedly reputable local firm with all necessary qualifications. Yes he gave me a receipt. Having moved into the house in December last year, I believe it was serviced about 2 years ago. A simple phone call to the very helpful people at Baxi...

Following a diagnosis of a blocked injector by a couple of your professionals, I booked a service with a local 'corgi registered' "engineer".Having taken all the front plate screws off and disconnected the piezo, pilot and thermocouple connections, he tells me that he cant take the thing apart...
