    Waterproofer / plasticiser volume

Hi, Getting ready to have my first sand/cement render attempt (DIY) - I’ve got so much useful info from you all but have one final stupid question I can’t seem to get an answer to. My waterproofer and plasticiser both state quantities based on the amount of cement used - eg per 25kg bag - is...

    Rendering inside of planters?

Hi! Just that it stops it breathing. Feels daft considering that a retaining wall that’s rendered on one side would surely be much worse!

    Rendering inside of planters?

Hi - I planned to render 3” down the inside of my planters (angle bead up top, drip/stop at bottom) - below that, the DPM will begin. Ive been told by someone yest that you should never render both sides of a dense block, regardless of whether it’s only a few inches out of a 3 block high...

    More weird paving slab stains

Hi folks. Going a bit mad...I replaced a handful of paving slabs (pressed concrete mix of grey with a dash of yellow through them) as a fe seemed to have a dye leak. The foundation is type 1 and sand, which has been totally fine for me in all other cases. After a rainy night, all of the new...

Concrete block planters - mortar joints

If the water somehow got behind the DPM on the inside of the planter, could it not move outwards to my render on the outside damaging it? It shouldn’t happen as I’ll fix the DPM to the inside of the planter....but if it somehow did?

Concrete block planters - mortar joints

Oh I know I’ve got a good 20cm of gravel and the DPC only covers the inner sides not the bottom so no concerns about water draining. It was more the speed it got through the mortar that had me worried.

Concrete block planters - mortar joints

Hi folks, I’ve built and mostly filled planters but not yet rendered. There’s a DPM on the inside too. However....I noticed yest by accident that if water gets behind the DPM (I was messing with the hose), it fairly quickly makes its way out through the mortar joints. I didn’t use waterproofer...

    Paving discolouration

Done also mentioned I have time stamped photos from the time, so that might prove useful. Thanks all.

    Paving discolouration

Hi both, thanks for getting back to me. I’ve attached a similar slab that’s only been covered - circled the front/rear, and it does appear darker on the underside now I look at it. They were from Dobbies, so a reputable garden centre, though from a company called Kelkay. It’s been 9 months so...

    Paving discolouration

Hi all. I laid my patio last year, just a hardcore/sand base. A good handful of my slabs, which are grey with a slight blue to them and yellowy flashes, have some dark blue discolouration - looking back at when I laid them last year they were the same - I guess I shrugged it off as them needing...

Outdoor prep - cable for future

Thanks - I did wonder the same, but figured that as the longest will likely be 20-25m and have maybe 3x 90 degree turns, that that might be fiddly to feed a cable all the way through?

Outdoor prep - cable for future

Hello! First post, having already been digging around for rendering tips...but for now I have a different question I’m hoping you can help with. I was going to lay a couple of cables while I’m building my garden (eg, down the side of planters) so that when the time’s right and I get a sparky to...
