    Tarting up some front steps

Trying to think of some low cost easy ways to spruce up some front steps. When they're dry - they look all dusty but when wet, the colour comes out and they look more uniform and reasonable. I've seen some patio and paved driveway sealant that you can buy - would this be useable on brick...

Thanks - the builders are going to come back and replace the slab in question

    Patio slab querry

We’ve been to see them today and they were in agreement and more than happy to provide a replacement slab :D

    Small sized plug socket

I've removed the socket cover to expose the wiring as suggested. It looks like the wiring goes "into" the wall as opposed to up and down. With regard to the fusebox - it looks like wiring taps off from the socket and goes up, via the fuse box, and to a swicth and then a light in on the wall...

    Small sized plug socket

I had thought about that - this might be an odd question but is that allowable to do that? Like I know it would be a means to an end but would is be frowned upon?

    Patio slab querry

I've just splashed out and had a patio laid in our garden. I'm really happy with the finished product, but I have a querry over one of the slabs/stones. We chose an indian laliptar yellow package, which comes in a varied random range of naturally cut stone, with an element of colour variation...

    Small sized plug socket

Crikes never even thought about modifying the fuse thing. Could I ask - why would it have one there? We've had an ECB fitted to the house since we moved in, maybe the fuse thing is a reminant of and older setup? Will try and get some photos of wiring done tomorrow Thanks again :)

    Small sized plug socket

Here's a wider image I guess an electrician would have a better idea on the logistics of moving it all up - it's not even used that much, partlly because not many things can physically plug into it

    Small sized plug socket

omg wow - and I thought I was pretty good and finding titbits on the internet - thanks mate - that does cost a bit more as you say, will have to think on my next move now :S

    Small sized plug socket

Hi there - I know it would be under normal conditions - but i think the socket is recessed into the plaster board so don't think a new socket would fit diretly in place - also as I mentioned, a bigger sized socket would probably mean that there wouldn't be enough space for the cable from a plug...

    Small sized plug socket

I know new ones exist and are cheap enough, but I was hoping I could just replace the front of the socket - changing it over to a new more moderm one means a bigger job (for me that is)

    Small sized plug socket

Yes - I'm guessing that this is the case. I think there is an inline fuse thing directly above it - is it a major job to move a socket up a abit? as the existing socket is quite close to the back of the work surface, and plugs dont fit in that well as it is Thanks both

    Small sized plug socket

I have a small conservatory extension area on my house which has some electrics installed. There is a double plug socket of which the left side socket has stopped working - in that a plug won't go in anymore. From looking in places like B&Q, this double socket seems to be some odd quirky small...

    Old drain cover

Not sure which forum I should post this in .. But I have an old concrete drain cover in my back garden. It's the cover of a combined rain/grey/waste drain. It looks pretty rusted in - it's size seems to be: 530mm x 680mm in size I've not spent much time trying to lift it, but it feels pretty...

Best way to join the waste pipes

Just to update on the drain story. I emailed South West Water who sent me a drain map back for my post code - and thankfully, the drain is a combined drain of both grey and rain water. I thought it would be, but always good to know for sure so Thanks Harry. I've not extended all of the waste...

Best way to join the waste pipes

I'm slowly trying to work my way around the place doing these little jobs - and was going to just buy a new section of guttering and redo that bit :) I've googled the shoe - hopefully it will all transpire that the drain is a single drain system If you're interested, I'll post when I found...

Best way to join the waste pipes

That's fair I know all about not assuming - I've just emailed South West Water to see if they have any plans - I think though that I can pull the drain cover that is just by that drain to see if it drains into the grey waste Don't suppose you know if the "end" has a name or what it is? My...

Best way to join the waste pipes

Hi Harry, Can I take it when you say grey water you mean from sources like sinks/baths/showers etc This is how the drain setup has been since we moved here 15 years ago so can only part assume that how it is is the correct setup - there is no other drain access in the vicinity. My plan is to...
