    CH on continuously

Thank you CBW, understood. Can I attempt any troubleshooting on the diverter valve, or is it generally a replacement?

    CH on continuously

Thank you both. I think you're on to this. I've turned comfort mode off and it seems to have resolved it (at least, the CH is off). Does it follow, therefore, that the next thing to test is whether the rads heat up when using DHW? Regards

    CH on continuously

Thanks CBW. To be honest, I don't know. Regarding the diverter valve, could a fault with that create demand for heat (and make the boiler in-effect switch on) even without any controls connected? Many thanks

    CH on continuously

Hi all I have a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 837, around 10 years old. The CH has been running constantly, and I thought originally this was a fault with the timer/thermostat (Drayton Wiser). I have disconnected the external timer (Drayton heat hub), and fitted a used Vaillant mechanical Time switch...

    Drayton Wiser Heat Hub wiring

Hi @stem - firstly - apologies for not responding. I had to leave it last weekend as a) i'm so busy in the week, and b) it started snowing so I decided not to start mucking about with the heating :-) Secondly - thank you SO much for the comments above. Really super-helpful. The Drayton...

    Drayton Wiser Heat Hub wiring

I'd appreciate some advice with wiring for a Drayton Wiser Heat Hub. I have a Vaillant ecoTec 837 combination boiler, currently controller by a Honeywell programmer in the hallway. On removing the Honeywell controller, it appears it's connected to the boiler with only 2 wires (a permanent live...

Conventional flue with Oil condensing boiler

I'd appreciate views on the following please My father needs a new oil fired boiler to replace a very old one. The existing boiler is located centrally in the property, and is flued via what appears to be a stainless steel flue liner which routes up the original chimney. I would estimate this...

HELP! walll repair after removing skirting

Vinny, some good advice above. I don't think cutting plasterboard is the way to go here. I plastered for the first time a few months ago, and surprisingly was really pleased with the results. Give it a go! Be sure to post some pictures of your finished result! Best of luck

    separate switches for 2 lights

Tickly - Checked the pendant light - there's 2 cables coming into it. One must therefore go over to the other light. I guess this means we've reached the end of the line with the project!? (i.e. they don't have independent cables...) There's no chance of me running another cable as the...

    separate switches for 2 lights

Sorry - yes - that was a rubbish piccy. I wonder if this one helps? Looks like there's 2 wires into '2W', which i guess is equivalent to 'L2'? Does this make it any easier to determine the setup? Plugwash - I see your point. If that's the case, presumably I'm scuppered without...

    separate switches for 2 lights

Hello all I have 2 lights in a room, switched by a single switch. I would like to be able to switch the lights independently of one another. I have unscrewed the light switch, and there appears to be 3 x twin and earth cables entering the box (presumably one for each of the existing...

    New plasterboard wall question

Thanks. Just to clarify, do you mean attach the tape to both original wall and new wall, and then plaster over the bit of tape that's showing on the original wall? Sorry if i'm a little confused!

    New plasterboard wall question

Hi all, I have build a new stud wall and plasterboarded it. Should I do anything specific (before plastering) where the new wall meets the existing wall at right angles to stop cracks appearing? I was wondering if I need to use a flexible filler before plastering or something? Cheers
