    Tiled Roof Underlay Problems

Many thanks for that. I will check the laps as you describe. I dont remember any being joined at the saggy boards, but did not have a good look this morning. And I do know that there are some sway braces in place. I did notice that. That was the type of thing that I did to the boards...

    Tiled Roof Underlay Problems

Many thanks, Alan. That puts my mind at ease. I had visions of the roof coming in on the first strong wind. BTW, what is a lap joint?

    Tiled Roof Underlay Problems

I have noticed this morning while in the loft that some of the plywood underlay on my roof has 'sprung' down from the joists. The felt and tiles above the boards are intact, but wonder how big a problem this is? In the past I have secured these panels back into position by bracing them with...

Thanks, I have managed to determine that it is a Mira 723 - about 15 years old, I think.

Mira Mixer Shower Difficult to Turn Off

I have a Mira mixer shower which has become very difficult to turn off. I can't find anyway to get the mixer knob off the wall to check the arrangement behind the control. Does anyone know what is involved in replacing the washer (or whatever) that is behind the control? And how do I remove...

    Broken board beneath my roof

Thanks. I'll check the next time it rains. There doesn't appear any sign of dampness on the plywood but it may be that it has dried out.

    Broken board beneath my roof

I have recently noticed when in my loft that quite a number of the boards upon which the felt and then the tiles are placed are bulging away from the joists and some are cracked. Should I be worried about this and what can I do about it? The board seems to be plywood.

    Boiler Losing Pressure

Thanks, corgiman. That's exactly the stage that I am at now. Notice has been given to them to make good the fault and if they do not then another contracter will be brought in and a small claim raised. As you say, the hope is that once the Trading Standards folk get involved, maybe they will buckle.

    Boiler Losing Pressure

Sorry guys, I should have been clearer about this. He replaced all the old plastic piping with copper piping and replaced the old boiler and radiators. The old system was an open vented system. Since the installation I have had loads of problems. Initially he connected part of the pipework...

    Boiler Losing Pressure

I have a Vokera Synergy condenser boiler which loses pressure. Every 4 weeks the boiler will lose 1bar pressure and shut down. The central heating system was only installed on 16.12.2005 but the installer is ignoring my requests for him to call and fix the boiler. The boiler has always lost...

    Poor Cistern Flush

I don't think that it is. If I hold the handle down it makes no difference. But if I block the valve with my finger it does empty.

    Poor Cistern Flush

Thanks, guys. I had hoped that I wouldn't need to dismantle the cistern but no such luck  EDIT: Just checked the cistern.....I notice that only half the contents of the cistern flushes. Is this part of the same problem?

    Poor Cistern Flush

Thanks, JohnD. Is the flapper valve a straight replacement and what makes it better?

    Poor Cistern Flush

The flush that I geet from my cistern is pretty weak. Sometimes it will take 3 flushes to clear the toilet. Therre seems to be poor pressure when the toilet is flushed. The cistern fills from a gravity tank and not from the mains. Any ideas on how I can improve this?

    Pressure Problems with Vokera Boiler

Thanks, guys. Yes, the installer was CORGI registered. Tony, do you mean a drop of 0.5 bar over 2/3 months in a new system? Should it settle down as the system gets older?

    Pressure Problems with Vokera Boiler

I had a new Vokera Synergy E boiler installed in the middle of December - along with new radiatirs and new pipework. Since then the pressure level has been a constant problem. Initially it would drop from 1.5 to .5 bar every 4/5 days. The contracter has been out and cliams to have fixed a leak...
