Gas shut off stuck or stiff?

Son has come home from Scouts with a ton of questions about home safety and in answering them I realised I’ve been meaning to work out why I can’t get the gas shut off to work. Photo shows the valve and handle which is attached with a pin and I can’t get it to turn. Should I be removing the pin...

Heating coming on when no demand

Hi, I’ve had a look through but can’t find an obvious answer to this. I have a Vaillant Eco-Tec Plus boiler and a couple of times recently the rads have heated up when there’s no demand from the thermostat. Thermostat is set to “off” so only demand is for hot water. First time it happened was...

Fixing loose bath panel steel bath

Thank you very much. I’ve contacted the fitter as it was only done a year ago - will see if they come out but looks like I’ll be having to fix it when you say it needs to be sealed is that with your previous suggestion of metal paint in the same way you would after cleaning a rusted radiator?

Fixing loose bath panel steel bath

Thank you this is really helpful. There’s about an inch all the way along that isn’t enamelled where the panel tucks under which is where water’s getting trapped. No wooden baton / brackets or any kind of fixings it just slots in. The panel rests on the floor and then there’s that big gap so...

Fixing loose bath panel steel bath

A year ago I had a replacement bathroom. Supply was done by fitter’s preferred supplier but I hadn’t realised at the time they treated supply as to me directly (I deliberately picked a fitter that said they offer supply + fit) so the fitter isn’t interested in coming back to look at issues...

Toilet not fixed to floor or wall

Thanks all, yes @Madrab it’s fixings into the vertical sides and while the bolts have been put through if I feel under the toilet there are no brackets so they’ve essentially just been put through loose and siliconed in so they don’t fall out. I’ve emailed the fitters so hopefully will hear back...

Toilet not fixed to floor or wall

I had a bathroom replacement done six months ago and the toilet has just started wobbling. Have had a quick look / feel underneath and while there are bolts in the side of the toilet there don’t appear to be any fixing brackets on the other side so they’re not fixed to the floor. Have looked...

    Sudden long ceiling crack

Hi all, I have read other ceiling crack posts but can’t quite find the answer to mine. I live in the ground floor of a converted Victorian building with 3 floors above me. I got home today to find a 1.5m long crack has suddenly appeared in my lounge ceiling from the corner of the chimney breast...

    How tight should monobloc be?

    Appreciate your help!

    How tight should monobloc be?

There are a couple of notches in the underside of the basin, so yes very lucky indeed. I actually turned the washer upside down on the theory it would bend back, it’s gone into place nicely and no leaks for now! Will still replace but at least a short term fix.

    How tight should monobloc be?

Have taken the whole thing off and it’s more bent than I thought! Rubber washer is damaged too. Must have happened when it was originally fit. Assuming best solution is to try a new washer entirely and see if that helps?

    How tight should monobloc be?

Hard to get the right angle to show the bend but you should be able to see in the second photo!

    How tight should monobloc be?

Thanks - very helpful. I’ve done this but the mounting plate starts bending after a while of tightening so the nut keeps moving up but the rest of the horseshoe bends. Is this normal? The tap still leaks slightly when it’s that tight, although not as much as previously.

    How tight should monobloc be?

Hi all. I had a new bathroom fitted three months ago and have just noticed while cleaning that the monobloc basin tap is loose - it was very easy to swivel around. I’ve tightened it significantly with a monobloc spanner (after helpfully reading previous posts on here) but when I test splashing...
