    Coving adhesive or no nails??

Hello again Third eye Clintex have been around for quite a few years, I started using it because the brand I was using for texturing site & private work was difficult to mix (we used bumpers then) and seemed to go off too quickly and drag, (not mentioning any names) this was proving to be a...

    Coving adhesive or no nails??

Hi Dazztee Texture powder is also ideal, you can mix it to the required thick consistency, it won't dry out as quick as drywall/plasterboard adhesive, but as JBonding points out keep a sponge or wet brush handy to clean off the surface once fixed. Dale

    can i paint artex

Hi Martinseal It is best to use Matt emulsion for the first coat and thin it down with water so that it will sink into the texture (thats if the texture coating hasn't been painted yet) Regards Dale

chalky ceiling in 50's built house

Hi Maddonafan These surfaces are a nuisance when it comes to re-decoration, for the best results it is best to use a bucket of warm soapy water and wash it off using a bathsponge, when the water becomes dirty replace it, if there are bits stuck they may have been applyied using oil based...

I NEED HELP QUICKLY PLEASE - ALCOVES & ARTEX

Hi Amanda and Neil Those were the days! It was very popular during the eighties, many people wanted to have the alcoves built up into arches with wood and plaster/wall boards then finish off with texture (artex) Now as things go in and out of fashion it must be taken down for re-decorating...

Advice On Patching Up Damaged Plaster After Removing Tiles?

Hi Wokeye There should not be really anything showing after it has been plastered, I would make sure that any loose material is off, clean the surface to be plastered, pva, to seal it then dub out the low points with plaster first, and when ready skim over the whole area, I have done it in...

Maybe one for Zampa (paint problem)

Hi Zampa, Hotwire It could probably be that when the ceiling was painted for the last time, as it slowly dried in it started to pull off the emulsion that was done previously as this may not have keyed a 100% to the surface but because you have painted it last year Hotwire and it was secure...

Maybe one for Zampa (paint problem)

Hi Hotwire The reason that the paint is peeling off your textured ceiling is because when the decorator started the job he should have put a watered down version of the emulsion on for the first coat, this dries & sinks into the surface ready to key in the second coat whereas if he used a...

    papering on non-plastered walls

Hi Goalc I would presume you may get charged between £180-£280, but it would also depend on the condition of the walls and the area that your in as there are always various rates around the country, but look on the bright side, you should be able to paint the walls afterwards instead of...

    papering on non-plastered walls

Hi Goalc, Skim probably would be your best answer for such a large area, it should not matter if there is paint on the wall as long as this is solid and sound because the plaster'er will pva the area first If you intend to fill the walls yourself it would work out cheaper but if your not...

    papering on non-plastered walls

Hi Zampa this is true, the textured surface becomes very porous indeed, as people have problems even when they emulsion onto texture, but it must be understood that a well watered down emulsion or sealer sinks into the texture and not sits on top of it as there seems to be problems with...

    papering on non-plastered walls

Hi Goalc It sounds like you got a right problem there and you want to prepare the area as best you can as it will show through the finished wallpapering, if I was you, and I do it all the time in my customers houses if they don't want me to plasterskim or texture the wall/ceiling is to buy a...

    Ceiling Rose

Another way to fix a heavy plaster centre rose is to seal the back of the rose with a watered down pva (unibond ect) because this is a very porous surface, use about 1 part pva-4 parts water and let this dry completely, this will take out the porousness of the rose, thus helping the adhesive...
