    Problem with door contact

Recently the door contact isn't registering when the alarm is set... If I type in the code and leave the house there is no change in the sound from the keypad, and when you come back in the house, the keypad doesn't beep to get you to disarm the alarm but will go off if you pass a PIR. I...

    stud walls with 135 angle

Do you mean attach one or two beads? If I use one, then I wont have a strong joint so will be likely to crack and if I use two then when they butt together at that angle there will be a gap of about 10mm showing between the edges as the inside of the beads will touch first (I think?)...do you...

    stud walls with 135 angle

Thanks for your replies. The mitred studs sounds like the professional way and would solve my studwork dilemma but I don't have the equipment to do it and I doubt I could do that with a handsaw. I didn't realise you could get 135 angle beads, I 'll look out for those, but still wouldn't...

    stud walls with 135 angle

I've been struggling with how to make a 135 angle in a stud wall... If I consider there to be 2 separate walls and simply choose my angle and connect them together then the plasterboard on the outside will be floating for about an inch on both walls and I'll have trouble nailing on a corner...

Worcester 24i combi - DHW but no heating...unless DHW on 1st

Engineer reckoned thermistors were ok and swapped out the pcb and this seems to have sloved it... What I didn't realise was that you have to wait 4 minutes after the heating has beeen switched off before it will fire up again...the engineer said he'd checked that before changing the pcb.

Worcester 24i combi - DHW but no heating...unless DHW on 1st

Looking through other posts I'm wonering if this can be caused by the CH thermistor? But wouldn't that stop any CH at all?

Worcester 24i combi - DHW but no heating...unless DHW on 1st

I can only get the central heating to work if the DHW has been running first to get the gas to flow and ignite, when the water is turned off the boiler stays alight and the radiators heat up. I figure this rules out the programmer (timer on the boiler) as I can also use this to turn the...

Mains fire alarm...think I've messed up...

Another update...some good and some still a bit unsure of... He is registered with NICEIC, called to confirm it. He did come back and finish some of the jobs off, the problem was that the panel would only support 2 sounders and we have 5 so he had to switch the pcb for a different one...

Mains fire alarm...think I've messed up...

Thanks for your posts. ...an update... I checked the alarm again and pressed one of the call points this didn't set the alarm off! I went to the electrician's house and he's promised to sort out the call points and sounders tomorrow, we'll see what happens. I think I'll be calling...

Mains fire alarm...think I've messed up...

Could do with a few tips on the following...may be a bit of a long post, and partly a rant! I got a local electrician in to install a mains fire alarm including smoke detectors and sounders, and to do a periodic inspection. All went fine at the start and progress was looking good so when...

fitting a fire door to an old frame - rebate too small

Thanks for the tips. I decided to try with the router, I didn't have a top bearing guided flush bit so tried with a regular bit and temporarily nailed on a guide for the router (used the new door stop for this as it was already cut to length). The router shifted most of the material in...

fitting a fire door to an old frame - rebate too small

I'm replacing an old internal door in an old frame with a new fire door. The frame doesn't have a separate door stop that I can remove and refit so I need to increase the depth of the original rebate to hold the thicker door. To complicate matters the legs of the frame have shifted in...

Triton Ultra 2 shower - water stops after a few minutes

Cheers, Adam. Would it be safer to use a 40A plug-in Mini Trip breaker in this case? I assume that because these plug-in breakers exist at 40A that the fuseway could handle 40A if the situation ever arose?

Triton Ultra 2 shower - water stops after a few minutes

Checked the connections again, a bit more closely this time, and could see evidence of burning at one of the connections on the isolator. Replaced the isolator and so far everything's in order again...

Triton Ultra 2 shower - water stops after a few minutes

the shower is 8.5kw the fuse wire is 30A but hasn't burned out... customer services said that the solenoid valve needs the full voltage to open and let the water flow...do all showers have solenoid valves? perhaps my last one didn't and could handle a lower voltage (if that could be the...

Triton Ultra 2 shower - water stops after a few minutes

it's an old style fuse box with the fuse wires... don't see any burning in the shower, the isolator or the fuse box (but haven't looked inside the fuse box as it's not my thing...!) thanks

Triton Ultra 2 shower - water stops after a few minutes

The shower is an 8.5kw shower. It's only about 3 months old and has been working fine until Sunday. When I'm using it, it runs fine for 2-3 minutes then the water stops and the power light goes from bright orange to dim orange. The customer services team said to check for loose...

Combi - intermittent loss of DHW

Hello, I have a Chaffoteaux and Maury MX2FS gas combi model MX224NAT. When the central heating is on I can get hot water in the kitchen or in the bathroom. There is a problem if the hot taps are running in the bathroom then the cold is turned on in the kitchen. The water in the hot tap...
