Multifuel stove installation with cavity wall insulation

Ha, ha Thanks big all, I'm not installing it to use as a primary heat source. The room will have radiators for that. It is more aesthetic than anything else. Like you say, the're good to relax in front of.( it's a primal thing). My understanding is that the clay liner will be suitable in its own...

Multifuel stove installation with cavity wall insulation

Hi, Apologies if this is in the wrong place! I am about to be getting a multi fuel stove installed as part of a renovation project. The flue is a Clay Flue which sits within the cavity of the wall which has the small polystyrene type insulation balls inside. My question is whether this would...

    Need Help Finding Chimney!

This definitely isn't vented. Anyway, after confirming it was a clay flue by removing the cap, I bit the bullet and knocked out a block. And there it is the clay flue. Thanks for all the replies!!

    Need Help Finding Chimney!

Not actually looked down it yet, but there's definitely a hole under the cap. I'll need to chip the cap off to see if the liner is there. Pretty sure there will be though as the cap is vented and according to the dwg it should be there.

    Need Help Finding Chimney!

Hi Ree, thanks for the quick response. The 2 Flue chimney was built at the same time as the house in the 70s. I have taken measurements off the drawings and am pretty sure I know where it should be. But am a bit nervous of taking bricks out of the side of the house as I suspect I need to go...

    Need Help Finding Chimney!

I'm hoping some of you experienced builders may be able to help me here (please!). My House was built in the 70's (77 I think). Originally the room I am concerned with was a Garage. This was converted around 10 years ago to a Bedroom, Ensuite & Sitting Room. I am now converting this space into...

    Proposed Grant Vortex Pro Installation

Thanks for all the replies! I guess the biggest worry for me installing the unvented system is having cr@p showers. We currently have a power shower which is pretty good, (although it has its floors (another story)). If I hook up a shower head to the mains water would this replicate the...

    Proposed Grant Vortex Pro Installation

Hi Mugggles, Thanks for responding. Isn't a Combi worse when there is a high demand for water? I have had a combi before in a previous house and there was no way you could run 2 taps for hot water at the same time as the pressure was dreadful. I also seem to remember it taking an age to...

    Proposed Grant Vortex Pro Installation

Hi, I'm about to embark on a full Heating / HW system upgrade. However, there is one thing that is bothering me most. Whilst I am relatively happy at the choice of Boiler, I am unsure about the type of System I should be installing. Vented or unvented. My current system is a vented system...

To disconnect Cold Water Tank or not

Thanks for all the replies. Really interesting stuff. I had never considered some of the things you guys have spoken about. Probably because my last house was off the Mains and I never had any issues with mixers or the likes. Although the heating was off a combi as opposed to std vented...

To disconnect Cold Water Tank or not

Hi terrydoh, That makes sense, although currently the kitchen Mixer tap is off the main and the rest of the taps in the house are separate Hot / Cold. Except for one of the Showers which comes off a pump. Would this be effected by the imbalance or would the thermal regulator in the shower...

To disconnect Cold Water Tank or not

Hi Muggles, I do have a Hot water Cylinder, but I think this is fed from a separate tank (might be wrong though). There are 2 Tanks in the loft space, both above the Hot water Cylinder. I know the second one is not for the heating expansion tank as this is in a different part of the roof...

To disconnect Cold Water Tank or not

Hi, I am thinking of 'linking out' the Fresh water (cold) tank that is in my loft. My reason being is that I don't think its needed. Plus, our washing machine struggles to operate off a feed from the tank and I reckon that I would have more pressure straight off the main. I'm not sure...

    Boiler Recommendations

Tanks for the reply muggles, The insulation probably isn't the best, although it does appear to have had Cavity Wall, and there is loft insulation (could be better though). I came from an old 1800's house which had no Cavity insualtion and whilst it wasn't the hottest house in the world, it...

    Boiler Recommendations

Hi, I'm looking for a few recommendations (based on experience etc) for a new Oil Fired Boiler for my House. I have recently moved in to the house (4 Bed) and even though the heating is on The House is Baltic!! I suspect that the problem is down to A) the size of the Boiler (20KW) B) the...

    poterton performa 28i flow switch

Hi, Im looking for a little advice. When running Hot water, in order for the Boiler to kick in I need to turn the Tap on full bore. If I just turn the tap half way, then the boiler will not fire. This is quite a recent thing and am wandering if it could be a sticky DHW flowswitch? Can...

Is this condensation Damp, or somethiong more sinister?

Ok, so I've done some digging through some old paperwork in the house and come across a certificate of a damp course carried out in 1993. This was done on the same wall in question. So could this be a reoccurring problem of rising damp? The Certificate is supposed to be guaranteed for 30...

Is this condensation Damp, or somethiong more sinister?

Thanks again for the replies, its really appreciated! I have just pulled the skirting board off and its bone dry which is strange.... drpepe, your wall certainly looks like its suffering the same problem as mine. But under my floor is chipboard, then 2 or 3" Battons then concrete which to...
