    rcd tripping

I have a problem with the rcd tripping on the downstairs ring main. I have taken every plug out of every socket and it still does it. It doesn't trip straight away it takes about 5 seconds before it trips. The rcd doesn't trip at all if I have the downstairs mcb in the off position. The...

    tank overflowing pump constantly running

Going to change the whole system over to a combi I think. Having had a quote for a new cylinder it seems stupid when it will still leave a 15 year old boiler in place. cheers for the help.

    tank overflowing pump constantly running

the pump on the hot water side is a grundfos 15-50 and the c/h one is a grundfos 15-60. the therory that I have is that there is a small rupture in the heating coil inside the tank and the pump thinks water is being drawn off and is pumping as a result. Does this sound feasible? [/img]

    tank overflowing pump constantly running

I have a system that has a pump for the central heating and also another grundfos pump built into the hot water side of the system. The tank is a two part one with hot water below and I presume the f&e tank above. The hot water must be linked to the mains as there is no header tank to feed the...

    re routing Soil pipe

The plan is to put in a full 1700 shower bath so the air admittance valve would be just below the level of the bath. If an air admittance valve is fitted to the soil pipe inside the bathroom would that be acceptable as long as it's above the toilet spill over height? I will check with...

    re routing Soil pipe

At present the soil pipe in the house is internal and runs up the corner of the bathroom exiting through the roof. I want to know if there is a way to re route it through the wall (above floor level) in the bathroom and continue up outside the house. This would give more space in the bathroom...

    Copper f&e tank

Foe some reason the builder of our estate has used small copper tanks the size of a toilet cistern for the F&E tank of the central heating. The tanks are located in the airing cupboard above the hot water cylinder (which is pressurised hot water). Is there any reason why they used copper or...

    how high?

I am removing a back door with a 30cm high window above it. I will of course remove the old wooden door and window frame and use brick ties. I would like to know if you can brick up the entire doorway in one go including the 30 cm high window above it, or should I stop part way up and...

    How long?

I was doing some work at a customers house today and they said the house had only just been rewired. I casually asked about the work and was shocked/amazed to hear that the two electricians who came to do the job rewired a three bedroom house in two days (staring at 8 am and finishing at...

    Lighting tripping

Actually I do have one.. and water damage doesn't seem likely. The age of the wiring would be about 20 years.

    Lighting tripping

The upstairs lights at my parents house have developed a problem. The consumer unit has an RCD on it and it tripped out. It is fine on every circuit until you switch the MCB for the upstairs lights on then the main RCD will trip. As nothing has been done to the lighting circuit I guess the...

    Live earth fault

Here is an odd one for you. My brother plugged in his vacuum cleaner about a month ago to a downstairs socket and it tripped out. The MCB didn't flick off but all the sockets stopped working.. About an hour later though they started again. Then yesterday he plugged the cleaner into a...

Potterton Prima F ch only works when hot water required

When there is a call for heat from the ch only then nothing happens. Only time everything works is when the hot water is calling for heat, then both ch and h/w work.

Potterton Prima F ch only works when hot water required

My neighbour has a Potterton Prima F boiler (not combi) the problem is that they can only get the central heating on when the water in the cylinder requires heating. If you run hot water off or turn the thermostat up then the pump and boiler will kick in and all is well. But as soon as the...
