    What Cable Size?

Well, there goes that idea. The light can just be one of those crappy battery operated ones available from the likes of Poundland. The CD player would only have been used when I was out in the garden and as such, would have been on a dry day. The beer fridge can remain in the house. So all...

    What Cable Size?

Hi, I am wanting to get some power to my shed. I was going to have a waterproof enclosure in the shed that will house a standard 4 gang extension socket. In the house, I was going to fit a standard 13A plug, which would be connected to a RCD adapter plugged into a standard plug socket. The...

    Getting Power to the loft

I do believe that when I had my shower fitted, the gas installer / plumber put the shower onto this fuse. I think the wire goes from the fuse, into a FCU and then through the walls into the shower. I think you are right about the first 2 fuses though. I'll have a look when I get home.

    Getting Power to the loft

I've checked the fuseboard and there are 4 fuses in there; 5A, 30A, 15A, 30A. Does that help?

    Getting Power to the loft

I'm not sure what size the fuse is that is in the consumer unit in the kitchen. I will look tonight. I think there may be 4 fuses in there in total and I'm not sure which fuse applies to what. The cable connected to the FCU is 2.5mm and I would say the FCU is about 4 metres from the consumer...

    Getting Power to the loft

Hi, I'm about to have a new loft hatch cut and fitted. I'm wanting to eventually put some power up there. I can run a light fitting and switch from an existing upstairs light fitting, which once up in the loft should be easy enough to locate. I'm just wondering how I can get some electric...

    wireless switches

I would recommend going for the X10 system as it's easy to add new things to. I have the modules installed on my dimmable light switch, my outside light, lava lamps in the living room. I have the ceiling light and the bedside lamps connected to the same system in the master bedroom and I have...

Water leaking from electric shower unit

Looks very similar to the part that needed replacing in my Mira Sport. The part I replaced is on the diagram below (part 416.54) Something had made the back of the flow valve crack. I can't remember where I ordered my part from but http://www.showerdoc.co.uk have them. When I replaced the...

Air Vent - Is This Illegal?

I could probably afford about £60 for the new vent and that's about it. Just shelled out £63 for car tax, insurance due next month, need to get a new passport, pay for holiday, have money to take away and MOT due in March. £60 for the vent is all I can pay at the moment but I have until June 1st...

Air Vent - Is This Illegal?

I've measured from the base unit where the break in the cable was and it's 14" away from it and 6" away from where the cable disappears. Since reconnecting the cable I haven't had any problem whatsoever with the heating. As for the vent, I have two choices at the moment; cancel my holiday and...

Water leaking from electric shower unit

I had a similar problem with my Mira Sport shower last year. After getting a shower and turning the water off, I got out of the shower and started to have a shave in the sink. All of a sudden, there was a noise and water started gushing from the bottom of the unit. After a bit of investigating...

Air Vent - Is This Illegal?

Yes I did miss the broken wire but then again, sussing out these things aren't part of my job - they are part of his job however. Dismissing it as being caused by 2 faulty control panels was a bit half-arsed in my opinion. As for the vent, I don't know what the new size is and I can't find it...

Air Vent - Is This Illegal?

On Sunday night my central heating stopped working. Well, it was on but should have turned off about 10pm and didn't. After looking at the control panel (it's a Honeywell Smartfit system), it was blank with no display at all. Bought a new panel yesterday morning and still the same problem. On...

    What have they used?

This house has been a nightmare. The girl I bought it from had painted the livingroom and the master bedroom. The guy she bought it from did everything else - and badly! When I went to have a new kitchen fitted, I removed the wallpaper to discover that he had fitted the wall units and plastered...

    moving BT junction box

I remember my Grandma having one of those in her house, with an old-fashioned dial type phone. I'm sure that the telephone was hardwired into it, rather than the plug-in sockets that we use today.

    Bathroom paint type?

While on the subject, is there an alternative to tiling round a shower? I don't have enough cash to tile the whole bathroom but dont want to paint nearly all the bathroom and just tile the shower. The shower unit it over the bath. Thanks Carl

    What have they used?

Well, a couple of days ago, I started stripping the wallpaper in my spare room with a steamer. The wallpaper has come of fine but the problem is the paint underneath. Whilst taking the wallpaper off, some of the paint started coming off too but its as if the paint was also stuck to something...

    Blocking off soil pipe

In my bathroom (downstairs in the single storey extension), I have a soil pipe in the ground where the toilet waste goes. Though due to the plumber not really knowing what he was doing, I have a weird bend connecting the toilet to it. Outside of the extension is a soil pipe that goes into the...

    One Radiator Not Getting Hot

Thanks for the advice. So, I'm going to need to take the radiator off. That should be easy enough as it's only a small radiator (maybe 600mm or something). When I put it back on, will I need any PTFE tape or anything on the connections? Also, before I go to this extreme, do you think it would...

    One Radiator Not Getting Hot

I have a Baxi Bermuda backboiler installed in the house. The heating control is an electronic Honeywell one which is situated at the bottom of the stairs. There is a thermometer next to the hot water tank (square cut out of foam insulation so it is directly on the tank and has a springy cable to...
