    Radiator refusing to co-operate

FYI, as an update. The 2 radiators not getting hot was solved by increasing the boiler pressure. It had dropped to less than 1, into the red. I topped up, just a little bit to just over 1. I suspect the service caused an airlock or something and this drop in pressure was exacerbated by the...

    Radiator refusing to co-operate

The problem has progressed, I've found that one lockshield (is leaking and the boiler has dropped pressure as a result, I've now shut that, but it reinforces my belief that all the TRV's and lockshields need replacing). In a addition, now the rad in the room directly above the room with the non...

    Radiator refusing to co-operate

Hi Folks Strange problem. Everything working fine three weeks ago, not so now. One radiator is not getting any heat, it is downstairs and I suspect one of the last in the loop. I've check the TRV pin and it moves up and down fine. I've tried to bleed it and there appears to be no air in it...

New house - changing bathroom around

Hi Folks Buying a new house and we want to change the position of things in the bathroom. The house is a 1990 Berkley home and is advertised as having concrete first floor - it is certainly solid feeling! I'm assuming this is block and beam. Do you think this could present a problem for...

    Covering under floor heating

I agree mointainwalker. I suspect it was because it was slightly too big and it was easier to lay it out than anything else.

    Covering under floor heating

Thanks dingbat I know a spark (who is part p certified etc) is involved start to finish. I don't however know about the rest and can't see anything about part of the mat radiating heat directly to air anywhere. I agree this is the key bit really.

    Covering under floor heating

Hi All I'd appreciate some thoughts on the following; New bathroom almost finished being installed by a third party. It looks fantastic, I've done a few bathrooms myself and I have to say the quality of the tiling and what not is very high indeed. Anyway, we have had under floor heating...

Ensuite and bathroom rads coming on

both rads have TRV's, but i was slightly concerned that if they are on the HW system that turning them off may stop the flow of HW. I guess if it's been plumbed proplery this wouldn't be the case as it should just be a T off the HW pipework.

Ensuite and bathroom rads coming on

Hi I've noticed that the rad's in the two bathrooms upstairs are coming on even when the heating is off. I've got the room stat turned right down to the lowest setting yet every morning when I go into the either of these rooms the rad is on. No other rad in the house is on. Could it be...

    socket cable damaged by pin

Hi all The chap that was installing my electric garage door has managed to hammer a cable clip nail into the wire running down to a double power socket. This of course tripped the MCB. When the nail was removed I was able to reset the MCB no problems. A small amount of plaster and the...

Yeah, I saw them this evening, but I didn't have them to hand and did have copper. It was also getting a bit cold and I wanted to turn the heating and hot water back on :)

    Plastic pipe to TRV

Thanks for the tips. Had a look at the site, but was still not comfortable with the amount the pipe went into the valve. I've used copper instead and a bit of PTFE on the compression. We will see if it is ok, but it feels solid.

Using plastic pipe on brass compression fittings

Is it advisable to use a bit of PTFE round the olive and thread when securing plastic pipes to brass compression fittings? For example securing 15mm JG speedfit PEX to a brass built in Mira shower valve mixer? I presume you don't need to use PTFE with plastic compression fittings? Thanks in...

    Plastic pipe to TRV

Yeah I've got the nut and olive on, then put the insert in, but the pipe doesn't fit far into the lockshield (it looks like the gap is only a few mm and most of that gets taken by the insert!). I then nip it up tight, but it still very easy to pull the lockshield off the pipe (taking the nut...

    Plastic pipe to TRV

Hi All I'm connecting a new towel rail and am using this Danfoss TRV and lockshield: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/43668/Plumbing/Radiator-Valves/Danfoss-Straight-TRV-Lockshield-Chrome Trouble is that the lockshield is a 15mm compression joint and I can't get it to hold the plastic. I've...
