    Dishwasher Drainage

My dishwasher fills up but part the way through a cycle it stops, beeps and when I open the door the water has'nt drained. The dishwasher came free with the kitchen so it is not a known brand. I cannot see any pipes, only a filter at the base inside the dishwasher, which may mean dismantling...

    Updating Kitchen Worktop

I'm currently updating my kitchen (painting units etc). Due to a limited budget I would like to update my laminate worktop rather then replace it. Am I wrong in thinking you can purchase laminate in rolls to re-cover the worktop? As painting it is out of the question, any other ideas would be...

Have built an extension on the back of the house. I want to place a radiator in the new room. The boiler is in the nearby kitchen. Altering existing staircase

I have a closed string straight staircase. (one string against a wall) Ideally I would love an open riser staircase. Can I alter the stairs (ie remove the risers) or is it best to replace the whole staircase? I'm guessing that removing the risers would weaken the treads, but I want to be sure...

    Painting in loft

Having boarded my loft, I am 'sprucing' it up with a lick of paint on the walls and beams. Can I also paint onto the felt inbetween the rafters or does it need to be left inorder to 'breathe'?

    Painting on New Plaster

Have just had the walls of my house newly plastered. I have heard that it is advisable to apply a 90%water/10%paint mixture to walls first, prior to applying a proper coating of paint. Is this true and is the ratio correct?

    Open Plan Staircase

Want to change existing stairs to open 'non riser' type. Have found 1 company on web that sells them. Know of any other companies, or can I buy the parts and build it myself. I know I can get a joiner to it but I'd like to keep costs down.

    Dropping kerb

I have off road parking and wish to drop the kerb and construct a crossover to gain access to it. My dad is an retired builder who can do the job no problem. The council inform me they HAVE to do it at a cost of £1000. Other people advise me that you can do it yourself providing you get planning...

I am thinking of removing the underside off my existing staircase and taking out the risers in order to bring more light to the room. How easy is this, do I need planning permission and is there any online guides on how to do it properly?
