Hi, have new bathroom ready to install. Need to turn off supply before beginning work. Under the sink is a valve where the water comes into the house (round red knob). Unfortunately I cannot get the damm thing to turn in either direction! I guess it hasnt been used in a while. I have tried WD40 but to no avail. Any other tips on how to get things turning.
Cheers

Thats a nightmare for a plumber as well!

First loosen the gland nut on the valve stem, apply reasonable torque to valve but not enough to snap the head.

If that does not work then heat the valve body up to 100*C and try again.

If that does not work then turn supply off in the street and unscrew the whole valve body and investigate or replace.

If none of the above work then call a plumber!

sounds like a gate valve if so be carefull they strip the innards easily

you would be better off (as tony says) turning the water off outside and replacing it
