    Floor sander breaker RCD issues

It was attached the wall socket. It was the RCD that tripped. The electrician said that both RCD'S had tripped when he tested the sander in different sockets

    Floor sander breaker RCD issues

If the large sander was working fine for two days, why would it start to trip the electrics? Sorry for the ignorant question. BTW the electrician said that the sander was dangerous, and that is what was causing the trip ie a loose wire internally probably. Is this just bull as well?

    Floor sander breaker RCD issues

Thankyou for both replies. To be honest I don't know if he did an RCD check or not. Is there anyway I can reduce the chances of it tripping. Unplug other devices? Sorry if this sounds terribly ignorant! Sanding due to resume on Monday and don't want same thing to happen again!

    Floor sander breaker RCD issues

Been employing a floorer to sand and oil the floors and for the last two days the large floor sander has been working fine. Yesterday however the RCD kept tripping. Electrician was called and he said the fault was with the floor sander which was potentially dangerous hence RCD trip. To...

    DT10RF troubleshooting

Hi. Many thanks for your helpful question. Much appreciated. The problem actually started in the summer when it was warm so i don't think it can be related to the frost stat.(I've just read through the manual and it's set at 7%) and up until recently it hasn't been that cold. Do you have any...

    DT10RF troubleshooting

The DT10RF receiver on my 25Si Greenstar boiler is playing silly buggers. I was finding the heating coming on in the middle of the night when it wasn't timed to come on. I tried to reduce this happening by switching the receiver to OFF before bed. However, the heating still comes on even though...

    Soundproofing a double glazed window

Thankyou for all your replies - all REALLY helpful. I should have mentioned that the thinking behind getting secondary glazing is that I want to turn part of my office into a sound booth. I don't have the resources to build a fully soundproofed booth (or the floor to take the weight) and I know...

    Soundproofing a double glazed window

Will the installation of secondary glazing on an already double glazed window, significantly make a difference sound proof wise? I've looked all over the internet for soundproofing and if you've got single glazed windows and are adding secondary then there's lot of info and technical data...

    Solution to Penetrating damp.

PS can't seem to find anywhere if you can paint over stormdry once it's been applied. Is this possible?

    Solution to Penetrating damp.

The rear elevation of my house is brickwork with one coat of coloured render that's been painted. I'm getting damp patches appearing on the inside wall. Would something like Stormdry be of any use or is that only for exposed brick rather than completely covered brick?

    4 Wire Telephone Extension Question

Hi –Thanks so much for your advice. I opened up the master socket and I had a BT engineer in recently and he changed the internal wiring to the master socket (which he also changed) and so I now only have two wires going into the master socket – blue and orange going into A&B. There are two...

    4 Wire Telephone Extension Question

Hi, I want to plug my new ADSL2 router (t-link) into an old telephone extension socket upstairs but the socket looked cracked and broken so I've bought Secondardy Surface Extension Socket 2/6A There are four wires coming from the old extension - orange, orange and white, blue and blue and...

    timeswitch 140 problems

Hi, I've got a Ecotec Plus 831 boiler and thanks to this site was able to download the operating instructions for the timeswitch 140 that came with the boiler. The problem I have is that I've programmed the timeswitch, everything is in order, but the heating is not coming on at the times...

Vaillant Ecotec Plus 831 Timer problem

I have just had an 831 boiler with a digital time switch fitted but for the life of me I can't find any information on how to set the bleedin' thing. I've looked everywhere online but to no avail, even in the manuals which in all the diagrams have the boiler have the timer greyed out and marked...

    Choosing a replacement radiator.

Sorry to be so vague but it's due to ignorance. But I will try and give as much info as possible. Most of the radiators are doubles and not fitted with convectors. As if to show my ignorance what's the benefit of having convectors? All the radiators are fitted with thermostats and I have a...

    Choosing a replacement radiator.

At present I have installed throughout the house pretty old fashioned radiators which are inefficient and need replacing. But I'm at a loss as to what to replace them with. I dont want designer radiators or anything, just standard types but am confused as to what a new standard radiator consists...

    Bowed ceiling problem.

I have original (circa 1890's) 2 by 3 joists that run length ways along the ceiling and are begining to bow quite badly. Is the solution just to replace entirely with larger joists? The reason this has come up is the fact that the plasterer has taken down the mortar ceiling because it was bowing...

    Boiler not switching off

I don't have any room thermostats so I presume that boiler has an internal thermostat as it used to switch off and on.

    Boiler not switching off

I've got a Worcester 240 combi which used to switch off when it reached a certain temp. Now it just runs permanently until the timer switches it off. Is this a thermostat issue? And is it easy to change?
