Would people still say that if the U.K. was the first safe country?

If you lived somewhere that was allegedly dangerous for you and your family to live in and the U.K. was the first safe country that you came to, would you leave your family there, in danger, and pay a trafficker to get you across the most dangerous shipping lane in the world and would you then keep going through numerous other safe countries until you got to the one with the best free benefits/healthcare/housing/education systems?

If we were the first safe country it would be better as they never seem to stay in that country and travel through it to one thousands of millions away
Turkey has 3.2 million Syrian refugees

Poor gas112, so uninformed.

Poor Mottie, trying to comment on something he knows nothing about.

Oh dear

It is obvious that they are not fleeing persecution in their own country, they come here to fleece us and take whatever they can. If they were genuine refugees then they have the morals of a snake and cowards to leave their wives and children in that country and flee to safety for themselves. Either way I do not want this sort of person over here and it seems that neither does a lot of others too.

was this a split from another thread or something?

Is this the thread where we pick up the conversation on Self Employment vs Employment?

You do have a vivid imagination.

In a hypothetical scenario where the UK is not an island but has a partial coastline, if we had migrants entering the country from an adjoining country that was in difficulty, I suspect Reform, probably Tories and maybe even Labour wouldn't be overly concerned about the migrants getting onto boats to leave the UK for whatever country. And no, they wouldn't be referring to us being the first safe country and therefore all the migrants should be staying here.

However, in saying the above, I'm simply referring to the hypocrisy that exists in politics. The pivots, the distraction techniques, the double standards etc.

Political parties use whatever tools they have at their disposal. So, given we're an island and migrants are passing through other safe countries to get here, said parties are going to raise this to better their cause.
