“First safe country”

I think as the man of the family, I would risk my life to get asylum. And then my family could join me in safety. But many on here seem unable to imagine doing the same.
My first priority would be to get my family out of danger even if it meant me remaining in danger.

Also, it might be down to finance. A family might be able to afford £5k for one person but not £20k for four. So, they wait for the man to get asylum, then come to join him. There are lots of angles to consider before jumping to conclusions about these peoples motivations.

You keep banging on about migrants leaving their families but don't know how many actually do, if any.
Mainly because many on here seem to claim that the men arriving by boat are making there way here are to then claim asylum for them and their family. Ballcocks.

It depends on the situation. If your family are safe in a refugee camp, would you force them to make a terrible journey across two seas, risking death.

Why/what two seas? How will it be any easier will it be for them if you are already across those seas? Wouldn’t you want to go with them to make sure they are safe?

It's only 5k to come to the UK, they could all go to the first safe country together....couldn't they?

Med and Channel. Once the man gets asylum, the family can join him legally.

Safety in numbers.
I wouldn't want to use a trafficker either.
£5K is enough to buy a boat.

So just making up an argument to suit your case.

I don't remember anyone saying that.

Most do stay in the first safe country. There are currently thirty million refugees. A tiny percentage decide to try to come here.

I don't know why they make these choices.

Physically, how would that happen? Wouldn’t they be safe once they have crossed the med?

This happens in many cases. A genuine refugee family flees Syria and goes to Turkey. They decide they want to apply for asylum in the UK. The man makes the perilous journey across the Med, continental Europe and the Channel. Leaving his family in relative safety in Turkey. He gets asylum. And then his family legally come to join him.
