1 radiator is to hot to touch 1 minute then luke warm

just beneath the main body there will be something to grip onto (often a slightly serrated ring) and rotate. Make sure that you've set the TRV to maximum to release any pressure from the underlying pin.

I haven't seen any mention of balancing so far in this thread. If one or two radiators are overheating at the expense of others not heating sufficiently, then the balancing is suspect.

Some erroneously believe balancing isn't necessary if TRVs are fitted, and end up with a system that will only heat one or two radiators at a time, with other rads not warming up until the TRVs on the hottest rads close.

TicklyT - the op has only one TRV fitted to a single radiator, and it is this TRV that is closing down as it should that is causing the op's consternation.

took top off trv and house is warm at last, will be fitting trv's and room stat after xmas thank you very much for your help
