hello i have a friend who has just brought a house and they only have one circuit for all the sockets on a 32amp trip switch with an rcd.As they are doing the house up in two years can they split the ring in to two ,side to side or front to back to get an electrical certificate

The circuit can be split.

That work would mean you are installing two new circuits and that would be notifiable under Building Regulations Part P.

Is there a reason why wou want to split the ring? Has the 32A breaker been tripping due to overloads?

When you say "doing the house up" are they are having a rewire? If there are no problems they could leave it until then.

If they are having a electrical work done then make sure it completed before all the new decorations are!

Your friend's best course would be to have a qualified electrician carry out and inspection report on the installation.
The report will detail what must, should and could be done to ensure the installation meets current regulations.

It is best to do this before the walls get painted and that lovely laminate floor is laid everywhere.
