After much deliberation, I've decided that parquet flooring would be a nice replacement for the old and battered floorboards in a 100+ years old Victorian conversion (ground floor). Based on my reading, here is an approach I intend to use for laying them:
1. Remove old floor boards to expose joists.
2. Lay 19mm ply sub-floor on joists.
3. Glue and face nail 10mm parquet floor blocks/battens (not tongue & groove).
4. Sand and finish.
For those with experience, I'd appreciate your advice/comments on things such as: The adequacy of the sub-floor in terms of material and thickness (could it be thinner for instance?), the method of laying the blocks, the whole approach in general and any other useful tips.
Thanks in advance.
