11" Chimney depth ok for wood burner flue?

Hi

I have what id call a half chimney breast ie half of its depth has been taken away at some point so it doesnt come out into the lounge so far. Its sealed up.

I want to get a wood-burning stove fitted in the chimney but im not sure if the chimney is deep enough for the flue.

The chimney gap is 11 inches from the inside of the back wall to the inside of the front wall.

Is this enough room? The flue will be 6" going to 8" where it bends to pass thru the external wall as per regs. Its also a half chimney in height as the house was a bungalow and has had the chimney chopped off to put a first floor on hence the flue leaving thru the external wall.

I havent got an installer yet. Im after opinions first. Itll be a standard flue.

There is no such thing as a standard flue... I'm a little confused that you want to fit the flue inside what is left of the masonry chimney yet wish to run the flue up the outside of the property.... Why do you intend to increase the diameter from six to eight inches?

I don't see why you want to go up to eight inches either, six is perfectly adequate for the majority of stoves on the market. I think I get what you're trying to achieve, you want to install a factory twinwall system such as Nova SM up the side of your house as your chimney is no longer available to use? If you've got 11" depth it'll be a tight fit but there's no theoretical reason why it can't be achieved
