I need to fit a new drain to meet the level of some new paving, underground there is already in place a 110mm orange bend, the open end which I need to connect to says 110mm on the rim and there's a rubber seal round the inside.

I bought one of these http://www.screwfix.com/p/square-hopper-gully-grid/13687 which I assumed would just slot right in but it's too big by about 2-3mm all around.

Am I missing a connection?

The item you have is designed to fit the top of a gully trap, not direct to the pipe.

I see, thanks, is there anything similar that will fit direct to the bend?

At the moment the top of the bend is approx 3-4" below the surface of the paving.

If it's just for rainwater you can probably sit your hopper on top of the pipe, hold it with Denso or similar tape and concrete the lot in.
