I have one light that is a 12v 50W downlight. Its transformer is in the loft. One night the light output varied from the bulb randomly and after a few hours the bulb stopped working.
I have replaced the bulb with a known working bulb and it does not work.
A single switch controls this single downlight. I have checked the switch and power is there when switched on.

Can the transformer "trip", can I reset it? or would I be looking to replace it? Or is it something else?

get a new transformer, it sounds knackered. Careful to place it out of insulation - preferably mounted to some wood in open air in the loft.

that's what I thought got a new one from tlc-direct at medway.
Gone up there tonight and found the wire from the transformer just above the light holder to be very brittle. So much so that it snapped in my hands, breaking one of the wires. Quick cut and clean connection later to the connector block (which also broken from being brittle), replaced this and Whoay Hey - light works.
Nothing more than a bad connection that had been caused by heat of the bulb.

But at least I had a transformer to replace. Nothing worse than getting up there and finding I dont have everything.
