Is it OK to connect these directly to the ring or is it better as a spur from a socket?
If it is connected directly to the ring, do you just connect both of the ring cables live, netural and earth to the supply and the appliance to the load?

Yes it is okay, either way.

Yes, make sure you sleeve the CPC(earth) cable green and yellow, the grey sheath of the cable enters the FCU for at least 10mm and grommets are fitted to metal back boxes. Also the cable follow prescribed safe zone if buried in to wall and you have RCD protection on at least that part of the circuit you are adding to, If not already allocated at the CU.

The Fused Spur can directly replace a single 13amp socket on the ring final circuit, and is often used to power such things as extractor fans, cooker hoods, and small room heaters etc.

Yep - I have a family friend who is an electrician
Just wanted to make sure I had all the right bits and pieces before he turns up (and educate myself a bit!)
