Hi. Having a problem with a unswitched FCU to dimmer switch which turns on outside lights. Problem is they wont work.

It is wired as follows. Ring main live and netural to "in" on back of FCU. Neutral out from fcu connected to directly to wiring feeding outside lights. Live from fcu to dimmer switch L1 then from switch line to feed outside lights. I have no lights.

Any ideas where this is going wrong.

I have tested feed in and have 230 volts

What sort of lights are they? (specifically what type of bulbs?)

Have they ever worked?

Have you got 230V at the input to the dimmer?

Do the lights work if you bypass the dimmer?

Do you have 230V at the lights when the dimmer is on maximum brightness?

yes lights worked . have bypassed dimmer and still no lights. Havent checked at lights in garden

sorry have also got 230v at dimmer. lights in garder are screw in mushroom shapped with silver reflective bit on bottom(if this makes sense!)

That would be a good place to check.

So they're ordinary incandescent lamps, not CFLs or LEDs etc?
