Our house was originally 4 joined mining cottages eg four houses with a single room downstairs and one upstairs. It has been converted to a single house with one of the cottages at some point in time turned into a garage.
The house is 1830 sandstone, has no dpc or foundations it seems so was wondering if we want to convert garage back to part of the house eg refit wall and door what permissions and regs do we need to comply with
My concern is will building regs insist we dig foundation, apply dpc which may cause damp problems with the existing stone work by sealing moisture in and why foundations when originally it had none and rest of house has none so supporting a single garage width wall inside an existing property.
As it is returning to what was original and most likely the conversion to the garage was in around 1920's from our calculation so thus is unlikely to have planning permission or meets building regs can we just say it is returning to as was
Any help or guidance most welcome
