George Orwell's predictions did not come true in 1984, technology did not develop fast enough to meet that date.

But now Big brother does exist and is gaining more and more knowledge about the population.

In George Orwell's 1984 it was compulsory for every living area to have Telescreens installed by the government. Telescreens had cameras and microphones controlled by Big Brother,

In the reality of today the "telescreeens" are installed voluntarily by people and beyond George Orwell's prediction they are carried around in pockets and hand bags.

The government is not Big Brother, The Big Brothers are the large companies that have massive internet services...

We are also under surveilance by large commercial companies, they didn't force us to have "telescreens" in our homes and pockets, we chose to have the telescreens.

We eventually 'consume' what we are 'offered'...

Unless you don't wish to watch TV at all, you have to do so nowadays on a 'smart' device.

Because that is all that is available unless you hang onto an old one - which will also eventually die!
