hello hope somebody can help me
I have already fitted an inline extractor fan which works from the lighting circuit in the main bathroom and extracts through the roof. i now have an ensuit which I would like to use the same fan. The ducting is not a problem but i don't know how to wire the circuit so that the fan will operate from either light circuit, and also operate if both light circuits were in use.
Please help :?:

you may find that it will be easier and cheaper to just get a second fan and operate it seperately

Use two fans and a Y junction to join the two ducts from the fans to a single duct to the roof vent.

You will also need to fit back draft shutters to each of the vents into the rooms

Use a proper Y junction and not T junction as the Y will give the best results in air flow.

I agree with Bernard,

trying to get one fan to operate from two seperate light switches whilst keeping the lights independent is possible, but not really a practical solution. It may involve some kind of Heath Robinson affair including diodes or relays.

A fan kit might only cost around £30ish plus the cost of backdraft shutters and a manifold

It can be done with double pole pull cords, many housing estates in N London have this set up with one fan pulling both upstairs and down.

thanks again
was thinking this was what i would have to do but i was worried about expelling from one room to the other as i have not been able to find any thing to stop this happening. Where could i buy these one way flaps from to suit 100mm round ducting. Thanks for confirming what i probably already knew, was just hoping for an easy solution
