And you should be testing for AC volts
 
Seems there should be a wire to connect the 1 com to the other to continue the circuit.

If one of those switches operated the disconnected light fitting ,it's now redundant and there would be no point In bridging between the com terminals. You only need a permanent live to the switch for the ceiling light.
Do you know what terminations were made at the redundant/ removed light fitting ?
 
No I Don't unfortunately, I will test the connections and hopefully that might lead me in the right direction. Thanks for the help
