Agreed, as long as the wiring was properly secured in the plugs terminals and the cable grip was adequate, I wouldn't fail it on a PAT.
And I don't believe I have seen any PAT guidance that has suggested otherwise?
Well, it worked for me. Also, at my old workshop, I had an outside socket. So that it wasn’t permanently on for others to possibly use, I connected it to another socket on the inside using a piece of 2.5 twin and earth cable. Again, it worked for me.
I have one similar, on my drive, but it plugged in, indoors for a different reason. It was the only outdoor socket, which lacked an RCD supply, and it was adjacent to the consumer unit. I added a socket, for which I had a spare plug-in RCD, then plugged the outdoor socket into the RCD.
I clearly disputed the claim that "it shouldn't be a problem." It categorically is a problem.
