2 motorised valves heating question for 2 story House

What do the roomstats do then?

What you want is certainly do able, but exactly how depends on several things.

So:

Roomstats?
How exactly is the hot water controlled?

I can see a mix of John and my ideas here.

the room stats don't really have do much to be honest.

how do you mean how is hot water controlled?

Interesting read.

but what if the boiler comes on via the timer and both your MV are in closed position.......thus no flow and the boiler will go mad!

I think you need to wire your boiler through the timer as well as the two MVs contacts so that if both MV's are closed then the boiler does not fire up.

You didn't mention if the same boiler also heats your hot water, so if it does then you have a third MV for that possibly controlled by the timer with a hot water switch wired through the cylinder thermostat.

But if any one of the two MVs come on then the boiler fires when the timer is also On.

As for remotely operating the downstairs MV, others have covered that above.

If you do need to use remote stats the bdr will be with the stat when you buy it. Can you clarify how many room stats you have and what effect if any do they have.

Em how about gravity hot water, has been known.

Perhaps the stats already control the zone valves, they can't both control the boiler.

You are most probably right, if assuming both MVs are manually controlled and leaving them both off and if the CH timer kicks in, then quite possible that the flow may runs via gravity to heat the hot water storage tank instead, thus preventing the boiler from overheating. As well as the boiler may have a high temp. cut off point so it never get to a point where it starts to hammer or boil over.

Yes guys your right the stats do control the valves but the don't control the boiler.. Thanks alot guys for all the replies you really know your stuff.

In that case it's even easier.

Change the existing stats to programmable ones and set the times for when you want the heating on.

All you need do then is set the existing programmer to start the boiler at the same times.

Example you want the bedrooms 8-10, set the boiler and programmable stat 8-10.

There may be some over lap but that doenst matter as the unwanted zone will turn off.

Never ask an electrician to look at heating controls is the first place to start though.

Utter nonsense.

Only let a plumber look at your heating wiring if you want to be left with a non-compliant and often dargerous installation.

Spot on.

I'm gonna take a tactical withdrawal from this one

so if i did that there would be no need for a wireless system at all ..what price are programmable stats.. what ones would you recommend.. it looks alot handier solution if it worked and cheaper too
